My Dad. He was a WWII Vet and was D-Day +3. Didn't land with the initial assault forces but fought across France, Holland and into Aachen, Germany. His Army buddies told me about him. At his Eulogy, one of these same guys said something I'll never forget, "No one ever had a bad word about Woody" My Dad believed in always telling the truth. He was raised during the Great Depression and said, "Your word was pretty much all you had". A man of Honor and Integrity.

I was influenced to join the military by a judge. I had gotten into trouble and was given the option to join the army or be convicted and go to jail.

My older brother joined first. I followed him. My father was in the Navy in WW2, my father in law in the Army in Korean war. I guess I'm just from a military family.

I always intended to join military growing up, the military TV shows such as Combat, Rat Patrol etc and playing war almost daily with the neighborhood boys certainly influenced my decision, all my friends except two joined the military

My late grandfather who was killed behind enemy lines in Yugoslavia on a special ops mission. Obviously I never met him, but I was named for him, and I grew up hearing stories about his service and heroism.

I wanted to join the Army from about 14 years old. People tried to talk me out of joining. I left for basic 12 hours after graduation in 1961.
