Why become an NCO? What was your first time being one like?

I know the NCO creed, but I'm asking about your personal perspective. I specifically joined the rally point to ask this question because I'm not sure about myself, and I see there are a lot of veterans on here.

The first three years of my career were filled with bad leaders from the top down. I had to figure a lot of stuff out on my own through trial and error, and I never wanted other Soldiers to experience what I did. Just remember: you learn from both the bad and the good.
