So I was looking at my OCP Uniform the other day and I started to think to myself... If I can get my badges, rank, and nametapes sewed on my uniform, what was the point of switching from the BDU'S? One of the many reasons the ACU'S were brought into existence was to save Soldiers money by not having to sew everything on..fast forward 10 years and you can sew anything on and it's even more expensive now then it was then. I can go on about the buttons and how OCP looks like a different color woodland pattern but wanted to pose this question for everyone. Thoughts?

I think all the patches disrupt the scheme blending into the terrain. I don't know about the cost since I'm not in anymore but I doubt if they even considered that when it comes to y'all having to buy them. The one thing that bothers me over the changes I've heard and seen is that damned beret. I don't know how everybody wears that thing. Put one on back in the seventies; the most uncomfortable piece of headgear I've ever worn in my entire life. Special forces must have used them to see if their people could withstand torture!

the uniforms are tacky looking. ACU, OCP. with there Velcro patch placement. just horrible. saw on`s are great for long term mountings, of name, rank,& unit. Velcro is good for when they have to be removed in a combat theater . but the name of the game is camouflage !!! good or bad. the real cost is in having to change types of uniforms so many times in the last 10 years !! sewing on patches on is not as much as having to buy the uniform each and every time they change camo!!!

The fewer patches you have on the uniform the more effective the camouflage scheme. Go back the rank pins, the and branch of service patches and call a wrap. You can have all that other display on your dress uniforms and it doesn't compromise the effectiveness of uniform's intent. If you're worried about the cost of sewing learn how to do it yourself.

It's always been, and will always be, a money move, big money. Those making the decision only line their pockets, sooner or later when they get out. I personally opt for the Tiger Stripes.

Soldiers had too much money and they wanted them spending their uniform allowances and then some on new uniforms. ;)

What I really whant's,is to eliminate the dame velcro completely,as well as to situate the enlisted ranks on the sleeves in all uniforms, and the officers on the collar, using again the branch insignia, like they used, years back.

My $.02, the Military should have gone for terrain specific uniforms on hand.
Shipping to the "sandbox"? Desert Pattern,
Urban area? ACU.
Jungle/ Forest area, BDU.

OCP works, that's all I can think of. I believe ACUs were seen as pretty but not as practical. Those that have been in combat environments can probably answer better than I can.
