Can we compare the tenets of the revolutionary war with the Iraqi efforts?
Carl Von Clausewitz theorized 3 great components of war are:
- Passion: of the people will help decide wars. The American people and the militias were instrumental in war. There was a battle of 1500 militia men who went to battle with a British army and totally whipped their butts.
- Military: although George Washington was not a complete tactical genius, his army with the backing of the militias did win battles and fought for 8 long years despite the hardship of few supplies.
- The fledgling government was for the military and for the people. It was legitimate.
If we compare this with the country of Iraq we will have a different picture.
Mao Tse Tung the Chinese Revolutionary stated his steps to successful revolution:
- Elites in society will start a movement. Ditch diggers need not apply.
- They will build a cadre.
- The cadre will recruit and provide essential services.
- They will commit to asymmetric warfare.
- Once the rebel army is large enough they will fight the conventional forces.
Compare that with ISIS and the American Revolution.

IMO, France was the deciding factor. No chance the colonists pull this off without help from Louis.

I wrote a little something about this very topic.
If you are firmly entrenched in the version that is taught in schools and will not believe anything else, then don't click the link. If you are open minded, by all means have a read. You may find it interesting.

Do you think I will remotely read the whole paper? To imply I don't have an closed mind makes me want to eschew it further.

I wasn't talking to anyone specific. I apologize if it came out as being directed at you specifically. I was only addressing the tendency to accept the myths of the revolution as being factual history. It makes no difference to me if you read it or not. Chapters I and II are really only relevant part to this posting. You can read it or not, it doesn't make any difference to me really.
