I see so many on RP asking us to look at other countries of the world when considering change. Why are we so desirous to be follow countries our cultures that are not as powerful as ours?

to answer why so many are going the way out of religion and why most people don't want our government to based on religion I give you ISIS. most religions (including Christianity) seem to have outdated views or are just dogmatic. that is why so many people in America are going the deist or science routes. it only hurts the religious cause when there are over 4,000 denominations of Christianity alone. it shows a broken front and a cause that doesn't know where it is going. it's hard to trust an organization that has those traits.

SGT Anthony Rossi - Sergeant; There may be a bit of a reality disconnect to the whole discussion.

Might I recommend Philip T. Hoffman's "Why Did Europe Conquer the World?" [Princeton University Press; First Edition edition (June 30, 2015) - ISBN-10: [login to see] ISBN-13: [login to see] 708]

PS - "More powerful" doesn't necessarily equal "better".

Why do you think we are the greatest country on Earth? Yes we spend far more $ per capita than any other country on defense, more than the next 26 combined, but to assume we can learn nothing from our friends and allies is the height of arrogance. And to base our country on religion makes us little better than ISIS

Nothing wrong with patriotism. Pride is an often misused word here. Be proud of your efforts and accomplishments, not of something outside your control, like where you were born. I feel lucky to have been born an American and stand ready to defend our way of life as much as anyone here has sworn to do. However, if you think this is the "greatest country on Earth," take a listen to what Mr. Daniels has to say. If anything, it's a reminder that we collectively have some work to do. If you disagree with his statements then be prepared to back it with researched information.

Thanks Adam, we are the greatest country on earth. This is proven by simply asking the question, "Where would the world be today if America never was?" Hitler would have won WWII. England would have fallen. The Jews wouldn't exist as a people. Refugees would have no place to flee to. The poor of Mexico would have no place to go to climb out of true poverty. The list goes on. Sure we have our faults, but without America the world would never know freedom!!

Agreed. Had we not taken action the world would indeed be very different- most likely for the worse. Our country's accomplishments are indeed great. What about now? We need to continually strive for excellence not rest on the accomplishments of past generations. We can do better.

SGT Anthony Rossi - Sergeant; The statement "Hitler would have won WWII." is simply unsupportable.

Admittedly it might have taken Russia longer to push the last remnants of the Wehrmacht off the French beaches and into the English Channel, but it would have happened. Germany had lost WWII by mid 1942 - it just didn't realize it.

True, if Hitler had been removed from office, Germany might have achieved a different outcome, but that wouldn't have had anything whatsoever to do with whether the US was in the war of not.

PS - To think that America is the "sole source" of "freedom" in the world is hubris (at the best of times).

However you might be interested in having a good laugh at the ridiculously sloppy methodology of the raving looney, left-wing, socialist, liberals who wrote "The top 10 jurisdictions in order were Hong Kong, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. The United States is ranked in 20th place. Other countries rank as follows: Germany (12), Chile (18), ...".

You can read the whole idiotic so-called "report" that places seven Monarchies as being higher in freedom that The United States Of America through the link below

http://www.cato.org/human-freedom-index

You don't have to read the whole silly so-called "report" because you can jump right to page 11 (the first ten pages are so-called "explanations" and indexes) and you will immediately see how those raving lefties have distorted reality for their own ends even before you have finished the first of the remaining 105 pages - which are so obviously going to simply be further repetition of false so-called "statistics" that there isn't any need to actually read them before dismissing them utterly.

We are one of the most powerful, and one of the wealthiest. But we are in no means the greatest country on Earth. There is no such thing, as some countries have what others may not.

I now make it my earnest prayer, that God would have you, and the State over which you preside, in his holy protection, that he would incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government, to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow Citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the Field, and finally, that he would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all, to do Justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility and pacific temper of mind, which were the Characteristicks of the Divine Author of our blessed Religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to be a happy nation. GEORGE WASHINGTON

The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.1

Without religion, this world would be something not fit to be mentioned in polite company: I mean hell.2

The Christian religion is, above all the religions that ever prevailed or existed in ancient or modern times, the religion of wisdom, virtue, equity and humanity.3

Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited. . . . What a Eutopia – what a Paradise would this region be! JOHN ADAMS

Robert here is another quote from BEN FRANKLIN
As to Jesus of Nazareth, my opinion of whom you particularly desire, I think the system of morals and His religion as He left them to us, the best the world ever saw or is likely to see.29
