Incredible that we will likely see the B-52 flying in 2050. GE has powered some impressive airframes and they seem to be the leader in re-engining USAF aircraft.
The C-5M case study alone – they took a plane as big as a city block and added 22% more thrust, 30% shorter take-off roll, 58% faster climb, and allows the crew to carry larger loads over longer distances. Cheers to the engineers behind that F138. Would be great to hear what some of the aviators, engineers, and operators of the RP community think.

I have no doubt of the quality of GE's engines. I have flown the J57, TF-33, and CFM 56 (amongst others), and the CFM 56 is just amazing...reliable, durable, and efficient thrust every moment of every day through decades of hard use. Questions: What relationship(s) or agreements exist between GE and Boeing to ensure Boeing shares all updated engineering specs, software and tools GE might need to execute the re-engining contract? Will Boeing be a sub on this effort? What recourse does USAF have, built in to the contract, if Boeing is reluctant or slow to share needed (perhaps proprietary) information? How are depot mod schedules incorporated into your timeline?

I appreciate the deconstruction if available engines, I know a lot of homework goes into framing a conversation; but I’d like to hear how the new, best engine option, is actually going to help the B-52 versus the current engine? For example, maybe thrust-to-weight ratio or increased payload capacity over distance. Other than those tactical level questions, there are many growing pains associated with any legacy upgrades, central to my mind is the aging nature of the assets skeleton with a new engine with more available thrust, any concerns?
