Why is a SMSgt who will be Ops superintendent be required to be crane certified on deployment???

I just find this an extreme waste of money to send me to crane school when I will be acting as Ops Super for an upcoming deployment. According to one of the line items it is a requirement. Why would they not make this a requirement for someone who will be most likely operating in the field? I'm all for receiving training but it just doesn't make good operational or financial sense.

When I was deployed I wanted to train on the crane badly, but instead all the LT's and higher ups were trained. I lost the opportunity to train because they wanted to play.

The position itself shouldn't have a crane requirement. If you are deploying as anything other than the Ops Super slot, then it would make sense. Double check 10-210, but I don't recall the Ops Super slot having that requirement. The other Dirt slots have at least one required per team, are you sure you aren't filling one of those slots?

That would make sense, I'll be the only person with crane though, none of my troops going have it nor are they required... Even my 3e271 doesn't have it listed as a requirement. When I inquired if it was my slot or just one of the dirt boy slots that needed it, I was told it belonged to me. Brilliant planning!

Unless something got mixed up according to the spreadsheet I saw the crane slot belonged to the 3e290 position listed as ops sup....

Like I said, double check 10-210 vs your assigned slot. The Ops Super slot isn't a dirt slot, even the heavy super slot isn't a dirt slot. There IS a requirement for the rest of the teams I know if for 1 crane slot per team. Guard/reserve teams may be different, you'll have to do your own research.

Actually it does if you never had the training. If a dirt boy says he can or can't do a crane pick you will have the understanding why.

I've had plenty of time on a crane albeit long before we had to be certified. I may be a dirt boy but the fact of the matter is my responsibilities will not be in the field. From a management perspective this makes no sense. Even having the dirt boy shop NCOIC would make more sense. Look, don't get me wrong I welcome the training, it just doesn't make fiscal or operational sense.
