Why is it so hard to switch from National to Active Duty and why are National Guard memebers assocation to the military no recognized
It is difficult, if you are still enlisted, because the National Guard has criteria that must be met, missions that need to completed, and manning that must be satisfied.
While the National Guard falls under the Army, you need to consider them still as different branches with different pots of funding. You enlisted to join the National Guard and they expect you to honor your enlistment. A good amount of the training you have received up til current day has been paid for by funds from the National Guard. So if they let you go active, while you are still under enlistment, they are losing out on their investment.
You need to look to the TAG's policy for your state in regards to going active. I can only speak for Tennesee, but I know our current TAG generally doesn't honor these requests.
SSG,
You are correct. I will reword my OP to not say "all" training. However, I was mostly referring to his drill weekend training, annual training, and any schools he may have attended after IET. Since he is a SPC, he should have had more training than just IET.
SPC Armstrong
Have you submitted your request to joine the Active Component? If so, what did your State's TAG say?
