Why is it that Military Posers all use the same story- Ranger, Seal, SF, etc. ? Why don't they try a more "believable" story- Cook, Supply, Mechanic, etc. ? My best guess is because the Ranger, Seal, SF etc story is more impressive & nobody except those with any connection to the military will question the word of a soldier especially a combat soldier. Anyone else got a better answer?

I also think that most of them have mental health issues and or are unsatisfied with their life that they have to come up with some grandiose identify to make up for their own perceived shortcomings.

I was in Iraq. I worked on Computers. Rockets happened, I worked on Computers, Mortars Happened, I worked on Computers, Battery Commander needed Facebook, I worked on Computers. If a Soldier came back to the FOB for being out for 48+ hours, and couldn't call home cause he didnt have a calling card, I worked on HIS/HER computer to make sure he could Skype. If S1 couldn't access internet to send promotions to DA because stupid Iraqi internet was down, I worked on THEIR computers. When S2 couldn't do Intel, we worked on their computers. When the XO wanted to Play WOW, I worked on HIS computer. When I left the Army, I still work on Computers. I am a Special Forces Recon Airborne Ranger Sapper Sniper.

After four years in the Army as an 11B, I spent 19 years in law enforcement. Got a call one day about some people camping out in the woods near an elementary school playground. So, I go track the guy and girl down. While getting all their info, etc. the dude (I guess to impress or intimidate me) asks if I was ever in the mi.itary. I said yes, gave him the quick run down and continued with my investigation. The dude then tells me that he was a former "Delta Ranger". I told him I'd heard of Rangers and Delta, but never the combo unit. He said it was "super" secret and since I was just a grunt, I never would have been aware of it. I giggled and said ok. Then I trespassed hm from the property, since it was owned by the city and they were creeping the kids out. He and his girl were pissed, but complied.
I concur that people use SF or combat arms type stories because of the "it sounds cooler factor". The funny thing is I live in a military town; 2 Airforce bases; one is a SOW, also the 6th RTB and the 7th SFG........bad place to try a dupe folks!

Insecure, immature people "pose" as military these days looking for approval. We didn't see that much in the early seventies.

They know that most civilians don't realize that any service deserves respect. The troops that support the seals,Rangers, special forces and PJ s are vital to the mission.

Because they dont know about the other jobs, "I was supply, I handed out condoms and trash bags, I also ordered the ammo, you know how many rounds slipped through these hands? Got this purple heart from stapling my finger to a huge order for shit paper and this CAB from hearing a desk drawer close, what did you do for your country?????

I call Bullshit, when a "Retired," soldier wears his uniform in public, except for military funeral services. The only public wear as a "Retired MSG," is my Vietnam Veteran baseball cap with my rank!!! These clowns demonstrated in this article make me sick... I would not give them the time of day !!!! In my opinion, they were never in the military..and don't know how to set up their ribbons in order.. They are FAKES !!!!

You know, I've wondered this myself. My brother's in the Army and I've run into like 4 guys who couldn't tell me where they went to Basic, but they could give me their rank and their best war story. It's just confusing and offensive.

I think is also Hollywood/video game industry influence, all movies with military are action flicks with special forces teams. The last time I saw a military man doing carpentry ( I'm USAF Structural Vet "woodpecker") or fixing something was when Colonel Trautman visited Rambo in the opening scenes of Rambo III. Even with all the publicity the USAF has gotten in movies in the last 15 - 20, with movies like Broken Arrow, Air Force One, Iron Eagle Transformers, Independence Day etc, that shows people in very critical jobs, poser will always go for the SF/Ranger story.

These people have some deep psychological problems and if they weren't impersonating military people, it would be something else. They are easily recognized, but I shrug them off as nut jobs and go on my way.
