For the life of me I cannot figure out the answer to this question! So may say it's a lack of engaged leadership. What do you think?

Because they are human...

We all do dunderheaded things. Hopefully we learn from them and do not do them again.

Engaged and involved leadership certainly helps, but leaders can't be everywhere 24/7/365. Plus, leaders sometimes do dunderheaded things too.

I agree! If Soldiers see leaders doing it it becomes ok for them to do it! The best example I can use is Warrents with hands in pockets. I also understand not all of you do it, so use the time to fix your buddy!

Most young people feel they are invincible, add in the culture of the military and it is easy to see how some of our younger military members can do what we would say is stupid. I did many things when I was young that I would never do today, back then I was a hardcore Paratrooper and nothing could hurt me, well at least that is what I thought......

I too remember those days! I reflect back and often wonder how did we survive? When I was a young Soldier we did craziness in moderation! Today it seems some toss all caution into the wind!
