Seriously I wanna know. Mainly from you senior leadership and your mentality when it comes to this specific headgear, or even as to why it's frowned upon in the field when it's clearly authorized to be worn in the field.

Also if you are just going to bash me or make smart ass remarks because I'm asking this question, then don't even leave a comment. Thanks

Well, I won't bash you but "smart ass remark" is pretty much my middle name.
That being said, I have to agree with most of the other commenters, that the boonie hat is something that does not conform to some up-tight desk jockey's idea of what military apparel should be, and their rank has very little to do with it.
These are the same types that have it in their head about the silly 'left lace over the right lace', when it comes to lacing up your boots. Their DS made them do it because they failed kindergarten and could not identify their Left from Right, so years later they preach this like its written in 670-1.

Fortunately, most of my senior NCOs and Staff Officers were all 'Nam vets that spent their time beating the bush and allowed boonie hats to be worn during certain parts of training exercises.

I have no idea why the boonie cap is demonized. I t should NOT be.
The boonie cap doesn’t represent anything evil, racist or controversial. My guess is that someone not even affiliated with the military got his or her feelings hurt. It’s really a shame that in this day and age someone can disrupt traditional things.
I still wear my old boonie cap from time to time. I am not trying to make a statement while wearing it as it comes in handy to do some outside work. I am also proud to wear it.
The military should not cave in to this BS.

Speaking only for my own unit as the 1SG, soldier care. Not in garrison, of course, and only if everyone had one.

I honestly think because so many civilians who are allergic to serving in the military love wearing military gear and the boonie hat seems one of their favorites so seeing troops wearing them reminds CSMs of that crap.

A little off topic but I sure wish I could have worn a "Boonie Cap" when I was in Vietnam. SOP for my unit, HHC 2nd of 8th Cav, was steel helmet or nothing. If at a LZ everyone went without head gear. Now at age 77 my head looks like a checker board full of sun damaged skin

Just wondering what the purpose of assigning that head gear was? Geographic location, tropical climate?

When I became CSM, even though I still didn't believed in boonies, it was instilled at the academy if it wasn't issued it doesn't belong. My Brigade CSM would chew troops for wearing dew rags, un authorized sunglasses and anything not issued.
So I followed his lead and did the same.

Seems like a lot of consternation over a "hat".
