Why is the boonie cap so demonized in the army?

Seriously I wanna know. Mainly from you senior leadership and your mentality when it comes to this specific headgear, or even as to why it's frowned upon in the field when it's clearly authorized to be worn in the field.
Also if you are just going to bash me or make smart ass remarks because I'm asking this question, then don't even leave a comment. Thanks

At San Antonio (IMWE), I was a 9/11 mobilization and a very senior O6, some one was constantly asking my O5 chaplains why he didn't correct me. You go chase him down and correct him. The O5 and I were friends and I approved his assignments. I had a CSM in the desert who reminded me every time he saw me about my boonie and I reminded him I was still an O6 and he was welcome to his opinion.

I don’t recall ANY situation where it was dissed in the Bush, excluding incoming this replaced by the steel pot or it was so faded that it stood out thus negating is effectiveness

I see nothing wrong with it except the desire for everything to the same. I like the boonie hat myself. I still have one. When the BDU’s first came out they were wash and wear. The next thing you knew Senior Officers started showing up with them starched and ironed. I don’t think they can help themselves actually!

I believe that my issue with the boonie cap is that it always looked disheveled and would not stay in a particular shape. I love to wear it but never did like it in formations.

Man I still got boonies in the plastic because we couldn’t wear them on deployment, such a waste of money. I got about 9

SGT,
We all get frustrated from time to time, but I would step back, take a deep breath, and reevaluate your approach to the matter. Your post--particularly the wording and the dismissing of opinions that may not conform to yours--is written like something I would expect from someone who has a long journey ahead in terms of leadership and an ability to change the opinions of your superiors. If you were to approach me with such an attitude for a mission brief, I would find it difficult to refrain from showing you the door and choosing another unit to do the mission.
"Seriously I wanna know. Mainly from you senior leadership and your mentality..."
From the beginning of your post, you are disrespectful, whiny, and put the reader--especially those in leadership roles--on a defensive position. Could it be that the push-back you are receiving has little to do with the headgear and much more to do with an immature and unprofessional demeanor that flows down from the unit SGT to the rest of the troops in your charge?

In the navy as well. The shade they provide is awesome, especially if you have been out in the weather for long periods of time. Helps keep the chance of skin cancer way down on the face, neck and ears.

In the Marines the boonie hat was authorized for wear during every deployment anywhere, anytime. Even during some training exercises. But for some reason in the Army it was not the case. Which was very annoying.

Sad truth is you rarely see either boonie hats OR patrol caps in the field any more. Usually, when a unit goes to the field now, its a PSAT(?) /Kevlar. Something that gives you headaches and neck aches all the time.
