History shows the US had policies of Neutrality at the beginnings of WWI & WWII. In 1916 with the war in Europe raging, the United States had a visit from U-53. So bold was the Commander of U-53 he visited the local Fleet Commander, and gave tours of ship to the American Commander and his wife. Before the American Government could get its act together and quarantine the ship, he packed up and left. Subsequently he went out and sunk several vessels after that. All while American Destroyer stood by helpless to do anything:

This makes no sense. There is and was no reason for the USA to become involved in WWI or any other "Foreign War". This was one of the great ideas the original founding fathers believed in particular George Washington.

Please name me why we went to fight in WWI? I tell you why because the banks gather together to form the Federal Reserve System got Wilson to declare war. The banks of America were concerned that their loans to the Allied powers would either no be paid back or that they would suffer a loss of profits on those loans in they were repaid back at a later dat or lesser rate given a Central Power victory.

Same reason fought the war of 1812. To wit, freedom of navigation on the open seas.

Neutrality means that you relinquish to "others", the power to act in your best interests. This works "only" as long as your interests coincide with those of the "others". A much better policy is to let the "others" know both what your interests are and that you "will" take actions to defend them. Of course, you have to be capable of actually defending your interests, which means pre-deploying forces around the world.

Neutrality only works if you truly have no reliance or interrelationship with the sides in the war. Something that is rarely the case.
