Offense was breaking curfew in Korea while escorting a drunk Soldier back to base from bar. The NCO was a SGT at the time and now SSG with 10 years of service.

If they were a SGT at the time it will not trigger a QMP. If it wasn't reflected in their NCOER the board won't even know about it.

Yes they were a SGT and it wasn’t mentioned in NCOER.

I was a SSG busted to SGT trying to bring an AK home. I made MSG 9 years later.

Didn’t stop me. I had a field grade article 15 in Korea for violating a pass policy. Was busted down to E5 with everything maxed. 8 months later I got my rank back. I eventually made SFC, CW2 and now retirement. So keep going after it. It’s your career.

Will a Field Grade Art 15 (no GOMAR or demotion) stop a NCO from making SFC or reaching retirement?

Wow, the army has really changed a lot if you even have to ask this question. Back when I was in the 82nd, many, or even most NCOs had at least one article 15 somewhere in there past. The no defect army is winnowing out all the rough-n-tough fighting SOBs that we need to win wars.

I got a field grade article 15 for striking an NCO when I was a private. I am now a SFC and about to retire. I would say it doesn't really matter as long as you are squared away afterward and seek to continually improve yourself. If you don't put much effort into that, then it might make a difference. I just decided I would be a better soldier and losing my cool was beneath my potential, so I worked my ass off trying to make myself a better soldier and demonstrate I had grown from the experience.

I just have to say, who was the idiot that gave an NCO an article 15 for getting one of his soldiers home?

If there was no GOMAR then I don’t think it would be anywhere in the records when he goes before the board if I am correct.

There are an awful lot of CSMs who had Article 15s as young Soldiers. I had a couple CSMs tell me that is probably why I never got selected. I know they were kidding, but it just shows how common it is.

Is this about me...? But if it's not mentioned in his NCOER, it shouldn't. I made this SFC list and that situation happened to me, except I received a Summarized and it was not annotated on my NCOER, although it did affect my overall rating.

Each case is different but for the most part (there are some exceptions) it shouldn’t affect his/her promotion potential. If it was a GOMAR, then the story would be different.
