When my contract ends i'm thinking of going active duty. The thing is, will i keep my rank if i keep the same mos or will i be demoted? This may seem like a stupid question, but If i end up changing my mos can i also keep my current rank? I just want to know if anyone has any similar experience with transitioning from NG to active duty. Thanks in advance.

All ranks are determined by the needs of the Army. The Army typically does what is called a rank determination when you come back to Active duty. Usually you keep your rank if you're an E5 and below. You sometimes lose it as an E6, and usually as an E7. Asking RallyPoint won't answer the question of whether YOU will retain your rank. That's as random as whether you will get an enlistment bonus. Meaning, strengths will determine.

It depends on if you are filling an E 5 slot going back in. As of right now they have E5 and E6 slots available for certain MOS'S

You keep your rank when going active from national guard no matter what mos you choose... Your recruiter can inform you of the best option to keep your rank

I'm not out yet but as soon as my contracts up i plan on going active, hopefully i can retain my rank, since i wouldn't want to start all over again.
