I finish my 6 years in November and join the IRR. My unit has me on the books to deploy in December even though my IRR contract is supposed to start. What is going to happen so I can plan my life? My unit is not responsive.

I never was deployed during my IRR time. But stay in shape just in case. Don't get fat.
They cannot deploy you once you ETS unless there is some sort of stop loss, but that would mean they would push back your separation date entirely. Short of world war III, I don't see that happening anytime soon. If I had to guess they probably have your name on the books as a placeholder, until your replacement arrives. They sometimes do that for manpower and budget purposes. Behind the scenes every billet is attached to a funding account where the money that actually pays your check comes from. They use that data to justify fiscal requirements when they are POM'ing for the budget.
Like everyone else says, once you separate from active duty, you are pretty much untouchable, with some very rare exceptions. Those exceptions require SECDEF or at a minimum the service secretary approval. Before they would do an involuntary recall of the IRR, they would tap into the performing reserve components like traditional reservists or guardsman. That would be in the form of offering a drilling reservist the opportunity to volunteer to go on a set of COADOS orders to augment an active duty unit. If they did tap into the IRR, it would be voluntary first. IMO, I don't think you have anything to worry about. You may want to check with your base's J1 personnel office and find out what the rules and expectations are.

I'll take your place, not joking. 74D30L3L4 38B. My bags stay packed ready to rock.
Is it possible to be called up from the IRR? Yes it is. Is the likelihood you will be called high? Not really. Basically, all the IRR is, is a place to hold you since you're still on the Army books. So, unless something really bad happens, and they need your MOS and your body, the likelihood of your unit calling you out of the IRR is very very low. BUT.....stay in shape, just in case.
Your T-1-A-1 paperwork (DA 4651 & DA 4856) should be submitted 45 days prior to your TPU Contractual Obligation Service (TCOS) date. If you have your paperwork ready, you should be okay. If you haven't completed your paperwork, I would recommend you contact your Army Reserve Career Counselor (ARCC) or your unit's S1. While your chain of command cannot decline to submit your transfer request, it is possible that it will not be processed quickly. If you receive orders to mobilize before you receive your IRR transfer orders, you will have to report to the MOB site. Once you get processed there, though, they should send you back home when they determine that your TCOS date has passed.

I do not have orders to IRR yet. I am reserve.

I've never been in the IRR but if you go to the IRR before the deployment the unit will not be able to pull you back. I do not know if your reserve unit can prevent you from going to the IRR prior to this MOB. Good Luck.
Most likely you won’t deploy if you are in IRR when your unit deploys. Once you go into IRR you basically put into a big pool of names and socials in a computer. You’re not attached to your unit anymore, but to this computer generated unit basically.
I don’t feel that you fully understand the scope of IRR.
Once you enter IRR you are no longer on that unit’s books. You are on a giant recall roster for the duration of your time on IRR. If you get recalled you are disposable to the needs of the Branch. They can send you where ever. Nothing keeps you attached you to your previous AD command. Technically there is the chance you could get reassigned to them but you have an equally possible chance of going anywhere else manpower is needed.

If you are transferred to the IRR prior to the deployment it is not likely you would be pulled. Units that need to full slots can advertise and pull from volunteer list before turning to the IRR.
IRR is not automatic. If the request to move to the IRR has not been started by the time they finalize the roster, you may end up on the deployment.
