Will the Army ship your HHG if you are PCS'd to a location 30 miles away from your current duty assignment and want to move there?

Just FYI - I dug into the JTR and all associated references. If you can reasonably commute to your new duty station, shipment of HHG is not authorized unless you can get a ETP MFR from an O-6 explaining that it is mission critical for you to relocate.

If it is a forced PCS they should ship or pay you to do a DITY. Under PCS rules in the JTR you should get the move paid for. PCA is different because it is local but a PCS should be covered. Miles don't have to be considered if it is a PCS. Below are some websites that may answer some questions.

Military members who make Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves from one duty station to another are authorized many entitlements.

MAJ (Join to see) - You are welcome. Just get clarification before you make a move so you don't get hung out to dry and make them show you the reg if they say it isn't possible. Do your homework before you ask so you know the answers before they speak. I was once paid to do a DITY to move from an on off base house to an on base house because I was forced to move on post and they paid for that because the government forced the move...just like a PCS.

That depends on how many cookies you brought to the Levy Brief Section when you showed up for the levy brief!

Cookies?! Sumbitch! Is that why I didn't get the duty station that I wanted when I was PCSing back from Korea?

Apologies, I should have been more clear. I only have orders for TWI. I won't receive orders for the Pentagon until next year.

have to look at the current limitations of distances, and if you are authorized relocation allowances

It seems like there are definitely rules involved (both distance and time) for DoD civilians in Federal Travel Regulations Chapter 302, Part 1, and Internal Revenue Service Publication 521, Moving Expenses, but according to 37 USC §476, I don't see any for uniformed service members. Any ideas?
