There’s a rumor in my unit that there will be no FY 19 Senior Enlisted Board. Has anyone seen a milper or heard this ?

Seen nothing. Would not worry too much until something is official. Rumors spread quickly and it would be very counterproductive for the Army to not hold a board in 2019.

I agree that it would be a set back in numbers . I wonder was something projected personnel wise by HRC. However, this was brought up during our daily PSG sync . It was said that there’s a Milper out .

1SG (Join to see) As I am pretty sure you are aware of the saying “Trust but verify”. Unless it is in black and white it’s not true. If it’s in a MILPER message already then that would be easy enough to verify.

Now I hope they hold the board and promote as usual. That’s morale crushing for those who are eligible but won’t have a chance for two years. Also if indeed they do it because too many weee selected the first time then the system needs to be looked at as they should not swing wildly between selecting a ton and then not selecting any for a couple of years.

When certain grades were overstrengtg in the past they continued boards but halted promotions. I personnel feel into this for E7 and 8. The result is the same, no promotions for a protracted period of time. Thank you for your service.

My former 1SG just made this years SGM list.. he actually told me that there will not be a senior enlisted promotion board for FY20.. and that subsequent boards will take effect the following year.

RA-USAR (AGR) SFC PROMOTION / SSG QSP BOARDS is listed with a date. No MILPER yet though.

For FY 19, the Army needs to grow the End Strength by approximately 5000, which means for people at each grade level. Personally, I don’t see a reason for halting selection of senior grade level. If anything, I would predict an increase on selection and promotion rate levels. Additionally, promotions have slowed down because of the new STEP program that places many presequisits on the SM before they are actually pin on. So, I don’t see how, this rumor is true.

As it currently sits there is a E7 board next year starting May 23 and closes June 25 or some time in there. If you look on the EPMD and look for the FY19 boards, it will specifically state the date. As far as I know its happening, but things could change. I have been asked that as well since I have had a lot of SSG's get promoted and they were told that there wasn't a board next year, but to my research and what I showed them there is a board, until HRC comes out and says no there will not be a board then its just a rumor.

I’m sure that’s simply a rumor. The Army has to keep having boards to fill its losses and fill its units (Futures Command). In the past to balance over strengthed MOS, they would hold a QMP or Early Retirement board to eat ride of those NCOs who have gone ROAD. If they do decided not to have a board then I’m sure HRC will publish a MILPER, or they will simply limit who can board (by date of rank and TIS). Good luck next year.
