With combat tours drawing down, are promotion points going to be reevaluated? If so where should those combat points go?

It should be something that the individual Soldier can control, like the higher the APFT score, the more points you get. Military education unfortunately sometimes is out of the control of the Soldier, especially now in these days of budget restrictions. College education can be another area for the points, might be the incentive for some Soldiers to start their higher education if they haven't done so already. I don't agree with the idea of putting the points back into the actual board, because I have seen some boards where is just a popularity contest, or a check the block type of thing.

This was my first thought when I saw this thread. Deployments, while being a base requirement and duty of our careers, are a great place to learn new skills to teach the next generation of soldiers. By switching this back to the education portion in both personal and development of others, it should bring about more desire by strong NCOs to perform tours in school environments and to complete degrees in order to increase their proficiency and that of their soldiers.

I can believe that the promotion points will be revamped. If it was me I would like to see it go to training, schools, and awards. Mainly to the training and schools these two areas will set soldiers apart from their peers and weed out the soldiers that wanna get promoted or just buy their time.
