For many Soldiers, there are not enough positions available to move up and you get stuck in your current position. Branch Manager cannot send you to any unit because you are one of so many that are in the same situation. Are you currently staying put in your position?

Actually what I am seeing is that many of my peer are being moved at the 24month mark even though they request to stay put but hrc is moving them anyway and way too fast in particular if you have families to consider.

Yes indeed CW2 (Join to see) too many times do families have to leave and restart. It is harder on them when the kids are in schools too.

I would probably request orders to go toJoint Base San Antonio. I'm looking at retiring around the Austin area and would love to have a final assignement working at Randolph and have my dear Uncle Sam help me out and foot the bill for a mortgage for a few years for me and help me get set up real pretty for my life after the military.

So far not an issue. Though I had to stay at my location in order to get ECCC prior to my next assignment. I will be at a point when up for PCS (3 year mark) when I will be up for MAJ BZ look and not sure if they will make me stay here until I make MAJ (if BZ or primary zone) or send me to a MAJ slot to "mature" into once I pin whenever I make it. Then again I am AGR so that may be different than AC.

My 1SG has been here for 2 yrs. He can't go no where for a Master Sergeant position because branch said there were none. He will just stay here until something happens.

I hope that for the company's sake that he is a good 1SG. Also, in my opinion it is better for your career to get as many and as long of assignments in "green tab" positions as possible. This allows you to shine as a leader and if I was on the board I would pick a good 1SG over a good MSG most days for a E-9 promotion as I would probably want to groom them for a CSM position. (Trying to look on the bright side of things).
