There were over a dozen Republican candidates: Dr. Carson, Trump, Christie, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Carlie Fiorina, Gingrich and more. The Democratic Party may have had their process rigged but there was only two choices...
With the broad spectrum of Republican candidates, how in the wide, wide world of sports did we end up with Trump?

This one is easy.

The Establishment GOP misunderstood the anger directed towards them and their lack of movement on any issue of substance. That anger resulted in Trump winning. It was a rebuke of the GOP.

Hillary won because the DNC willed it. That much has been proven through the wiki leaks.

So basically, Trump won because the establishment did not care about its constituents' concerns.
Hillary won because the establishment did not care about its constituents, period.

MAJ Charles Blake - Trump will win. Part of me doesn't want to see it happen, but then again, part of me does. He was my last choice of candidate for the Republican nomination. I saw him for what he was. Belecose and bluster with no real message other than touting polls and dismissing his rivals.

Despite this, I want to see the GOP establishment and the media flip. The delight I take in watching them melt down is just too much. Democrats as well. Neither of the three understand why he is doing so well. This is because they don't understand the voters right now, and how angry both sides are with the establishment.

Regardless of what happens, Trump or Hillary will be a one term president. That much I am certain of. Trump will face a republican primary contender, which is virtually unheard of for an incumbent. Hillary will lose to whatever rising star the GOP can usher in. All this will be a distant memory in 2021. If the country can endure.

LTC (Join to see) - This is amazing, I'm sure we're related. I love watching the meltdown of both parties, especially the GOP. I will hesitantly vote for Trump because of HRC.
These are interesting political times; no one had ever won re-election with the economy and other factors going against them until PBO did it. Perhaps we'll get to see an incumbent president get primaried out of a job next.

MAJ Charles Blake - These are my thoughts exactly Sir. Some say don't vote for the lesser of two evils, but I am steadfast against HRC. I will reluctantly pull the lever for Trump, then watch the Democrats and GOP melt down completely. Then I will enjoy Paul Ryan trying to suck up to him... if he isn't sent packing before then.

For me, it is seriously the lesser of evils, bottom line, I don't want someone who doesn't understand how to protect classified information, how to use government comms to communicate, how to safeguard our intelligence, how has lied, cheated and stole from others and who has willfully through neglect allowed an ambassador die.

Trump is no shiny nickle but is better IMO and IMJ than someone who doesn't really care about the people or the USA

He is the lesser of 3 evil that we have to choose from it is either a woman that let Benghazi and top secret emails go under the rug or a socialist that would make America like North Korea. The others just didn't plan their strategy the right way.

will you elaborate on becoming North Korea? I have not heard that analogy before.

North Korea is part socialist and part communists the government controls who gets food which consists of mostly immediate military family not the people. Health care there isn't any electricity is supplied only to military bases the regime is passed on to one family for thousands of generations. No elections of government officials they are appointed by the leader of the country not by the people. They are starving therefore becoming a socialist country we would end up like North Korea, China and regulations on who can give birth to children and similar to government genicide as Nazi Germany was when Hitler and Stalin ruled. The people would lose everything our forefathers had fought for in the ratification of the constitution, bill of rights and so forth. America the free and home of the brave would become, America home of the slaves and land of the lost dreams.

Good Question Maj Blake and here's my opinion. I really think that the everyday American citizen is just fed up with all these career politicians, all the unfulfilled promises they make, all the back stabbing and Trump represented the 1st person to come along that wasn't a career politician Another thing I see happening, When Trump gets into the WH and let's say he does well I think you'll see a lot more of these non career politicians running for the next POTUS. Trump in my opinion represents something different, he's got on TV and said what the people wanted to hear, he's hit hard on the terrorist issue, the immigrant issue and Obamacare and a few other issues and I think, and this is only my opinion Trump himself thinks he can change somethings and get this country pointed in the right direction. Like I said it's only my opinion.

SFC Richard Giles opinions matter, even more if they're thought through. I can't say that I'd be disappointed if more non-politicians got into politics. I believe our founding fathers didn't want a political class that ruled over us. Otherwise, GW would have been King George!

MAJ Charles Blake - You are exactly right. I wish somebody would tell those people in Washington that. It's even in the Constitution if I remember correctly.

Why Trump out of the field of Republicans? Because when a culture values spectacle over substance they get what they deserve.

There are other options.

The base has been prodded into madness intentionality they though they could control the creature that they created and failed, the re result is Trump as a nominee and very probably President Clinton

There is a strong contingent of the Republican party that are not conservative. They are authoritarian. This means essentially that they fear the outsider and fear change to the social order, and want a strong leader to take the reigns and punish wrong doers. Trump fits the bill for them. We'll see if they can get traditional conservatives to agree with them by November.

SSG (Join to see) now that's a perspective I have not heard before. I've heard of the Trumpers described as "tired of getting pushed around", "losing their positions, arguments..." but never considered them authoritarian.
I agree that they are fed up with too much "change" to the social order, personally I'm think to say they fear change is too simple and simplifies their issues.
I agree completely that they are not the traditional conservatives, but then again neither is the group that wanted Jeb or Rubio or Christie. It's an interesting time to watch the republican party, that's for sure.

Consider if the choices had been Carley, Rubio Cruz and Trump. Only 4. How would that have played out?

Col Rebecca Lorraine ma'am, that sounds like a new RP question starter kit. I'd like to hear people's thoughts on each. I would really like to have known more about Rick Santorum.

I'll tell you that Trump was not my pick in the primaries. In fact here in Ohio we voted in Kasich. Now i can't speak for all Ohioans but those I know who were open and discussing it voted for Kasich knowing that he couldn't win outside of Ohio. But we didn't want Trump to walk away with the election. By denying him Ohio he had to work for it. He worked pretty hard and got it. I'll support him thinking he'll appoint better judges, and he'l be easier to vote out in 4 years than Hillary would be. Should we need to that is....

SFC Everett Oliver , thanks for your perspective. I'm not from OH but I drove through there on my way to Ft. Drum once... I agree that from my perspective he didn't hold much national attraction...
