So with the SFC board over, and everyone got the good news or the bad. What’s your next move? Rather that be for pushing and better your resume for the Sfc board fy19? With the SSG Promotable's, will you wait till you pin SFC to start pushing to get ready for the msg board? I’m not talking about ncoers. Just for example maybe working for your mosvm, BAIB, Senior instructor badge, jump master, things in that nature. Would love to see what everyone’s plans are.
For me; I PCS’d to fort lee when the board closed. I have earned my mosvm, basic badge, and one tech cert and as far as troops I got one troop to take the DLPT( I took the dlab to motivate him to do it) he did really well, me not so much. However, as a teacher I just teach Troops about their SRB, correspondence courses, for young soldiers going to their first unit. For the Ssg that just got promoted to Ssg i just tell them what I did to make SFC gave them my “continuity book for Sfc”

I tend to prefer for an NCO to be good at his/her rank than hyper focused on promotion. Why look forward to being a SFC/MSG/SGM if you aren’t any good at SSG/SFC/MSG and seemed preoccupied with checking blocks?

It’s really hard to proof read my post and make all corrections.... not 90 hours 80 hours

I never really looked for the next promotion. I was usually already serving in a position at least one grade higher, so I just concentrated on doing my job. I tried to do the best I could to support my peers and superiors, while leading and looking out for my subordinates. As has been pointed out, do the job you are being paid to do, and be the best at it that you can. If you take care of your troops and the mission, everything will work out.

That is solid advice I used and worked for me
One addition is never ask your subordinate to do something you can not do

I have found that focusing on you duty performance and attending required and enhancing programs all supports you leading your Soldiers. Those that are looking for their next promotion as they pin or prior generally fall to the wayside after E7. It is almost assured destruction as they forget why they are there I. The first place, to train and prepare our Soldiers for combat. It is their readiness that gets you promoted. Thank you for your service.

I have an issue and am in desperate need of advice/guidance. First of all I am not trying to make excuses, I need legitimate advice, not criticism.
Here is my story... On Jul 3rd, I had back surgery ( Laminectomy and Microdisectomy). I came of con leave by choice early on Jul 30. I was selected for E-7 with a sequence number of 35. 55 have already been promoted in the last 2 months. I received an email with an SLC date on 19 July. Coming of CON leave I was taped at 30%, 267. Fast forward to 30 Aug taped at 26%, 251. I am 6’2. I know failed both. Working on that. I have a limited temporary profile with a pt test eligibility date of 6 Oct. My school date is 8 Oct. I know I can get there before then, however should I risk it. What if I injure something during the next month from the surgery. What if I get pre-taped again soon and then be flagged (what medical conditions can you not be flagged for). Here are my choices: Keep pushing and try to make the Oct Dat or Request deferment because of back surgery and try to get a later date, hopefully January 6. But it could be as long as another year (956 puckup and 800 not yet qualified to pin). Please help and ask questions. I really want to go to the Oct school date.

I just saw this, what I would do could be different then you. You know what your capable of at the end of the day. If you think taking pt test two days prior is pushing it. Then I would defer. Even if you’re flagged you can be removed from the flag and can still have your promotable status. I am content with being promotable for However long. Anyways, I would just keep going at what you are slacking at.

Hey brother, I would defer my orders to the Course and be patient to get back in the physical and mental shape needed to exceed the standard at your Next NCOES, you will keep your promotable staus, just be patient.

I am sure some of the non-selects will convert to Judaism. That way they can properly celebrate Passover. As in “I got passed over for SFC again!”

.. be the best leader you can ...lead teach coach and ... motivate .. learn your job and the next higher position .. ask questions when the need arises ....learn everything you can about your job and realize you'll never know all of it...Sorry but i have all the awards and tabs SQIs and everything else but as a leader its not about me... its about what do i do after i get them.... who do i teach the skills i know to... they aren't for promotion . as a instructor if your more worried about pursuing a badge at a senior or basic or whatever then your losing focus on your troops... sorry but that's my opinion... let your 1sg or ops worry about that( if they are on top of their game , they know where your at with it..)( as they should be focusing on getting you ready for promotion also why as a 1sg, we look at all erbs and question things and fix things)... We don't do this for us ... we do everything to make it the best we can for the troops...remember everyone wants to have that leg up on promotions... going the extra mile is great .. ... but being so focused on having this or that for promotion ultimately can lead to failure to take care of Soldiers... i found if your erb is up to date and a good Da photo Promotions will come...

after thought ...
A Co 832 ORD was a great place for me as a private as a 89B or as a 55b ammo specialist trainee...(secondary MOS)

My next moves are to finish my SLC phases so I can get pinned SFC. After that, either take another Detachment Sergeant position or go for a broadening assignment that is available to Reservists.

SFC (Join to see) - It can be. More often than not, slots are designated for AD as primary, and what ever is left over is offered to Reserve and Guard. I will admit, I did get very lucky as I was submitted for an SLC Phase 1 seat about a month before class start and was granted a seat. Will see what happens when I get done with this MOB and submit a request for a Resident seat.

SFC (Join to see) -Upon conclusion of the SFC board: Retire, and pursue my Doctorate degree; coupled with remaining humble, thankful and grateful for a 20 year career that allowed me to retire before 40. Yet, I am immensely excited towards my next chapter because the fun is about to begin!! Just like a book, you read and close one chapter to approach the new one with excitement in order to see what comes next as the story progresses! Be well and congratulations on your promotion, well deserved I'm sure!!

I think the message I presented I articulated as if I am looking for what people are doing to get promoted. I’m asking what they are doing to continue to separate. I personally won’t get promoted for another year. My seq number is pretty high. I have worked as the next higher rank in all my grades. I just wanted to know what a lot of people are doing. However, being airborne my entire career. No offense to the higher leadership however, I think leadership is going to happen no matter what good and bad. I do think learning your job and if you been in all the jobs in your mos then getting better at your craft. I just wanted to know what people are doing othe than what you will do no matter what. The no matter what is leading troops, doing your job, and doing pt.

To continue to Separate myself from my Peers.... I kept on going back to Ranger School until I earned the Ranger Tab.. 8 Phases and 235 days in the course; not consecutively; starting in June 2012 and finally graduated Oct 21, 2016. I just kept training and kept on going back. I use this story to motivate Trainees who are thinking about quitting basic training. Once I earned the Tab I was selected for Drill Sergeant. I have always been a leader to pay it forward. I earned a Bachelor's degree while on Recruiting Duty, Was inducted into the Audie Murphy Club and have sponsored others to be inducted. Earned a MOVSM, AAM, SAMA, and MSM on Recruiting Duty. Almost converted to 79R but decided to go back to FORSCOM. Always been the type of NCO to Exceed The Standard at Every NCOES to include at MLC. I have also competed at Various NCO of the Month Boards to include 1st Runner up for the 7th Infantry Division. After being Selected for promotion to MSG in April 2018, with 13 years of Service and 24 Months on the dot of Rated PSG Time; I accredit my selection to promotion to staying motivated and pursuing my career goals while Also "taking care of my Soldiers" both can be done simultaneously. Once on Drill Sergeant Assignment: I did my job and did it to the best of my ability, earned the Expert Infantryman's Badge an AAM, competed for the FT. Jackson Best Ranger Competition, graduated from Air Assault School on Nov. 21, 2018, and just qualified for the Bataan Death March. All you have to do is to continue setting goals for yourself and you will have a prosperous career. Keep up the good work SSG!
