I applied to OCS last year when I was just 10 months over 10 years AFS and quickly approaching the age limitation of 34. The email I received back clearly indicated that my requests weren't entertained beyond the scope of writing a rejection email. I would still very much like to cross over if the opportunity presented itself.

I think these rumors are coming from the 2019 NDAA. Congress wants to allow the services to decide who can apply for a commission and how they promote officers. Currently the law dictates how old an officer can be by grade, how much time in service they can have, when they can be promoted, how many opportunities they have to be promoted, and thier retention control point. It’s my understanding that Congress has removed these laws and in FY2019, each service will be able to revamp thier Officer promotion systems as well as selection and retention. But I don’t see it being changed within the first year. You can view the 2019 NDAA on the internet. Good luck.

I read the summary of the NDAA, but didn't find that information, great to know. I will continue to dig then and see if I can start working it sooner than regs want. Thank you.

Age limit varies depending on timing and administration. During OIF period, age limit was raised and degree completion allowed due to personnel number needs. During drawdown, age limit was lower and degree was required before attendance. Check with OCS POC for answer on current requirements.

Tracking, I've been watching it over the years while I worked to complete my degree. The rumors I was referring to were answered by MAJ Samuel Weber

And when the economy is booming and the Army is competing with the civilian sectors the standards get pushed down a bit. I commissioned in 1985 when the economy was coming back for the last big recession and the services being rebuilt from the post Vietnam years. They solicited the units to approach anyone that had the qualifications to apply. It was something I had considered when I enlisted, but really hadn't thought about it again until they approached me about applying.

Word. I'm poking around the NDAA and other items to see what was actually written.
