Would a 92Y be wise to reclassify to 79S (Career Counselor) in order to have better employment prospects after the Army?

As a former Career Counselor no retired and have been looking for jobs. I would say no way. To do my job in the civilian side they want formal education. Counseling or Human Resources Degree. Which I do not have. It has been hard. Being logistics every company out there can use your skills.

If you are good at logistics, Enjoy the job and can see yourself in it beyond the Army and also have a knack to execute and lead-stay with your MOS. If you do not enjoy your MOS, can’t see yourself in it after the Army and feel like your spinning your wheels then reclassify for sure. Now, should you be a Career Counselor, that is a entirely different question. If you have strong people skills, want to help people out, work to retain the best, are selfless and can tell someone what they should try and do, even if that is t what they want to do and above all see yourself as a vital component to the Army of the future-then become a Career Counselor! It is a great MOs and an awesome way to work in the Army; but you don’t get the same extras as you would in recruiting and possibly on the trail; hope that helps!

I would get on LinkedIn and Indeed and look up about 10 jobs for each profession. Look at required certifications for these jobs and the expected salary. You stated the word 'wise' in your question. I would have used the word profitable but you may have others. You need to determine what is right for you. Both professionals are starkly different with there own set of challenges. What is obtainable at a given time at a cost with a known return value might be something to consider.
