Would a distro by Nvidia done right bring more gamers to Linux?

SGT (Join to see) The only benefit I see from a Distro from nVidia would be that it is optimized for its graphics cards. We would still be shackled to the MAN if we used it!

No. The only way I see Linux ever becoming a viable gaming platform is two major points:
1) Performance gains over Windows becomes nontrivial, and
2) Linux can gain critical mass for developers to publish games on it.
As it stands, it's still a niche OS, and Nvidia developing on it is not going to change that any time soon.

SGT (Join to see) - I do not think so. Even though I am an nVdia user, competition from AMD is essential to keep them honest. That is why I am watching the SteamOS so closely. It seems to be hardware agnostic.

1LT(P) Jan I. Sir, as it stands right now, there are definite performance gains over Windows with Linux. Especially on hardware that is a year old or older. Linux has this reputation of being a niche OS for computer nerds. In order for wider adoption, it needs to shed that image. Distros such a Ubuntu and Mint have done some work in changing this, but it has a long way to go.

SSgt Mark Lines - I agree, but IMHO the performance gains are just not enough to convince users to prefer Linux over the majority of games on Windows, at least at this point.

1LT(P) Jan I. - True. As SSgt Mark Lines said, its all about the perspective. Truth isn't enough for most.
