We're all struggling with how to deal with refugees. What if we took in refugees on the condition that the military aged males would immediately be sent to Fort Benning for Infantry OSUT training and then would essentially be formed into their own units, sent back to Syria, armed and back into the fight. We provide food, shelter, uniforms, training, etc and they get to be our "boots on the ground."

Cyprus would seem to be a much more logical training location. Secure. An Island. Owned by a NATO ally (actually, two of them, sort of). Similar topography. It just makes sense.

That's a reasonable option! Where do we submit this for action??

If they ran now, what makes you think they would fight for us after being trained? Didn't we just try that with the SFA and got burned?

MCPO Roger Collins They ran because they want better lives for themselves and their families, they have no way of making that happen there. We give them that opportunity by giving their family a sense of security and safety and they gain the security needed to train and, eventually, fight for their country. It didn't work with SFA because they really never left where they were - their families were still theatened daily, they have no real security there.

So how many around the globe in the same situation should we give refugee status? We accept one million per year and that doesn't include illegals. Assimilation exists only as required. 48% of these refugees are men that can fight rather than running and letting someone else doing the fight for their country.

No, we can train them in their own country.

SSgt David Tedrow We train our Soldiers here where we can focus and train in relateive security and safety before sending them into combat. We don't train IN combat - that's why it makes sense to train them somewhere safe - the US, France, wherever that isn't a war zone - BEFORE sending them back out.
