If given the chance would you partake in a Evidence-Based Psychotherapy to help with your PTSD. They offer these treatments in both an residential and out-patient setting. Prolonged Exposure is basically (from what I can tell) is desensitizing yourself to the trauma. While Cognitive Processing focuses on the thoughts and feelings associated with the trauma. I have added an article and video (the video that is supposed to be in the 60 minutes link in the article..) that give more information about the treatment.

I would try anything that I thought would be effective.
This method would probably be very uncomfortable at first, like taking the guy who is afraid of heights up on an aircraft. I am certain the community will be very interested to see how effective this is - please keep us updated.
Lastly, best of luck SPC (Join to see). I hope this helps you find peace.

It's too bad that they can't work on the front side of the PTS(d) issue; determine a means to prepare service members for the extremes they will endure. Death, Destruction, Mayhem, to deal with the uncertainties of unconventional combat with an enemy that considers itself on moral high ground based on a religious ideology that calls for the death or enslavement of non-believers. The 'Pablum' of "peace and love", of "compromise, communication, and common ground" that we in the 'West' have been raised on will not work with an enemy whose ideology states that it is proper to give falsehoods and platitudes to non-believers; an enemy that is fighting the 'westernization' of the next generation. There is no such concept as humanity to this enemy.
Maybe group conversations and some THC might help the nightmares, but wouldn't it be better to know up front what you are facing rather than having it bite you on the backside? Possibly increasing the stress levels of Basic training could help, or frequent and realistic training scenarios. I do know that Haldol, Zoloft, Thorazine, and other psych meds mask but don't solve the issues that need to be dealt with
