So it was explained to me by a RP administrator that RP is meant for serious professional military development. He also pointed out that because the military I served in was nothing like today's therefore my experience is irrelevant. As RP members we are only supposed to be discussing things like regulations, how to get promoted etc. Please don't tell me facebook provides what I am talking about. It doesn't.

Cpl Dennis Fresch - You cannot go because your a Marine and you have no received a lawful order to do so. You know Marines aren't even allowed to die without permission. lol

LOL....you know I believe you are correct. I recall reading that some years ago somewhere. I hope those orders stay lost for a few more years.

I wonder if a button at top couldn't be created that just says 'Vets'... up at top of this page where it has "Updates", "Networking', Command Post", etc. I'm sure there a lot of folks who need help getting thru VA process, Retirement issues, Tricare for life, disability issues, other not so well known benefits, etc. Maybe a button as simple as "non-Professional development Issues" I'm sure there's a better way to word it. I really LOVE what we are building here at RP and hate to see a whole segment of us branch off or feel left out.

From https://www.rallypoint.com/about-us

"RallyPoint connects its members and gives them the best tools possible to succeed both while in the military, and beyond."

The last two words are telling: "and beyond". Oh, that and the whole bit about best tools to succeed whilst serving (and beyond), which indicates to me that we're not here solely to talk about regulations and how to get promoted. And just stating the obvious here... as a veteran and PFC (Private Freaking Civilian) I have no need for regs, advice on how to get promoted unless it's to SPC (Super Private Civilian), etc.

I like this site but think seriously about that statement you inserted. A military network founded to help military life better. What does that even mean to the members in uniform? How can a commercial site make military life better?? And it connects "us" , giving them the best tools possible to succeed. What are the tools? A goal to make military life better. That statement does not support life beyond. It is written as an afterthought. Truth is that the ONLY person who truly knows what the objective of this site is will be the creator and as it moves away from his or her vision, he or she will ultimately abandon it and leave it to the winners.

CPL Wagner--it takes all kinds of people to make the world go 'round, including the significant clueless nut factor. Tact and diplomacy are learned skills; a class that someone skipped. RP is whatever we make it to be. Hang in with us and make it better!

SGM Dan Coberly - Thank you sir. I'm not looking to make waves. To be honest I thought maybe he was right and I was wrong. However I do not want to see and junior people in fear of their careers because of what they might post here. I know companies are reading social media before they hire.

That is EXACTLY what I thought when I saw this thread. If that were the case, why would they invite us crusty old veterans anyway?

Yes, definitely. I have no use for a professional development website, but I can always appreciate an interesting debate about some hot topic subject. It would be a mistake to make RP into something strictly for professional development as it would quickly die out.

One never knows where they are going until they know where they've been. Lessons are learned still today from tactics that were used in WWII And Vietnam. Your experience is invaluable. I can offer you one last piece of advice. Don't take to heart what anyone says. Defend your position, but be thick skinned. Many people comment without looking at their response from 360• all around.

I am on Facebook, but rarely use it, as even some friends on there are in need of a brain housing group tune up. Linked in I am not a part of so couldn't comment. I have been pretty active here. I can expect a certain level of sensibleness on this site and know that we have all been through the machine in one form or another. The goofy shit that takes place on here just goes to remind us all that we are also human and not quite perfect:) And we all know that "All work and no play...will lead to Jack/Jill being grumpy and horny....."

I would and I agree with CPT Williams below that the individual whom told you this is talking out of their rear end. Anyway I joined this site to network but to also meet fellow Veterans and have a place to tell my opinion and such with like minded people.
