Would you still somehow get into an airborne unit if you went 18x (as prior service) and failed out of Q course ?

i know you get sent to an infantry unit if you fail Q course as an 18X just wondering if you could land in a airborne unit. You do go to airborne school after OSUT if im not mistaken, so would someone like 173rd or 82nd take you ?

Usually 18X non selects/ VW get needs of the army, sometimes even becoming tankers or what have you. You are not guaranteed to be an 11B. Usually you are offered a chance to go to CA or Psyop before the army has it's way with you, that's a good way to stay not only airborne, but sof as well

i was just trying to think of different ways to get into an airborne unit im in the process of switching to AD from guard and i plan on going airborne (and later on getting into Rasp) just wanted to see what routes i should take to make things happen

You do go to Airborne after OSUT and a large percentage of 18X don't make it all the way through the pipeline. That makes it a very effective recruiting tool for filling critical MOSs.
People who drop from the pipeline get reclassed to the needs of the Army. After their new AIT they will usually go to an Airborne assignment. Mostly that will be an Airborne BCT or an SF Command unit.

ok and by no means do i "plan to fail" ive just heard of people going 18X just to fail on purpose

SGT (Join to see) I've never heard of anyone joining the Army under the 18X program just to drop out when they could get 11B with airborne by asking.

i know a few people that went 11B and told me a guy went 18x and dropped out for some odd reason i always thought it was hard for prior service to get 11B with Airborne cause the rules changed weekly SFC (Join to see)

Need more info here! Are you already jump qualified or switching from NG to Regular Army on an 18X contract (requiring Jump School on your way in)?

im switching from NG to AD and i want to find the best way to get to airborne school (so i can volunteer for rasp) because i know i cant get option 40 on my contract

well the ranger regiment wont take prior service in as a option 40 but the possibility of a Airborne contract is still there, it just depends on when i go to MEPs and if its available at that time MAJ Javier Rivera
