Wounded Warrior Project a Scam?

I am not looking for a response but just want to state my own personal experience with VSOs. I am both a member of the DAV and WWP. In order to be a member of the DAV I had to pay $200 for my lifetime membership the WWP $0. I was a newly retired Vet and asked the DAV to assist in my VA claim I contacted them and gave them all the paperwork the asked for and for 1 week was in great contact. Now a 3 months later whenever I call I must go thru a messaging service and never get a call back. The WWP volunteered to look at my case and I have a rep that contacts me at least once a week for updates on my claim. once the WWP got involved it took 2 months and I was increased in my disability. WWP has also taken my family and I out for dinner and other events and programs with other WWP alumni at no cost. So I am not one to judge on how they spend money. I have received way more from the WWP at no cost to me or my family. Yet the DAV cost us $200 and all I got from them way a card that says Lifetime Member.

I was already losing faith and trust in WWP because they have not helped me out in the 5 years I have been with them. All they have done for me is post jobs available in the area to my email, the same service I can get from any on line search engine, and once a year they send me a survey to do and give me a hat or window decal saying I am a WWP alumni. After reading this article, I pulled those decals off my truck

So... a charity that is supposedly dedicated to helping wounded veterans is suing other wounded veteran charities because they believe their brand and image are being infringed upon by those charities with similar names and logos?

WWP has become too big for this issue to NOT be about money. They can afford the best lawyers and are nothing more than bullies to the smaller charities.

The best way to help our wounded veterans is to find charities locally. Especially those charities that work with the VA to not only help veterans but their families as well.

Most charities only donate a small percentage of the funds they receive. It's crap. Like the ALS ice bucket challenge, which under 10% of funds actually were used for research.

It is really no different than the Susan G. Komen folks suing other NP's for using "For a Cure" or using the same shade of Pink.

I have a hard time understanding how people don't understand what it takes to run an operation of this size. I have personally benefited a few times from WWP. I have a gym membership and have been on events here in the County courtesy of the WWP. If you think that there is no overhead in growing these organizations your sadly mistaken. I have served on the board of a few Not for Profit organizations and I prepare 990's for a a few more. The 57% split is not too bad for a organization with growth goals.
The real issue from this article is the WWP brand. If someone has anything related to the image portrayed by the brand of the WWP then people think it is that organization. So if WWP is spending $100,000 on advertising in that one area and a similar organization has a logo that is close to or a name that is close then people give to them vice WWP who spent the advertising. Therefore lowering the amount of money going toward the veterans because the other non profits also have overhead and effecting WWP's overhead to donation percentage. I see nothing wrong with WWP protecting the brand, the lawyer sending out a cease and desist letter or making a call fits the bill. If you want to complain then take it to the organizations that are using similar logos then fighting about it hence causing everyone more grief, kind of reminds me of my ex-wife.
