Wounded Warrior Project, What Are Your Stories?

Great Program for Veterans and Families. I am a member and I occasionally meet/greet with other Veterans. There are all type of events, once you sign up and attend. I have attended a dinner and Ice Hockey game I really like the resource center that help Veterans with their situations. Did you know ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS can join? What are your stories?

Mine's pretty simple. Our Certified Therapy Dog, Beckham, and I would spend some time with disabled Vets when we lived in Western Washington. Low key, usually in hotel lobbies or diners that had rooms off to the side. It's the quiet time when folk are most vulnerable and Becks is pretty sensitive to picking up on it and uses some of his tricks to keep them from crawling into their shell.
You should have seen the day he worked with a "flat tire". The Vets preferred to go to bat for him.

Actually working with the Vets is low key for Becks as the interactions are fairly routine. He does his best work in physical therapy doing resistance rehab. Patients will go twice as long with a dog on the other end. Becks has a pretty calibrated "lean". The other is geriatric neuropsych. We discovered that by accident during his final exam for certification. A resident that nobody heard talk during his 2-3 years was talking his head off within 15 minutes of Becks working with him. So he passed the test and we don't know if the resident clammed up after or whatever.

They were there for me when no one would help me. Too much red tape. WWP came to my rescue, and gave me hope again

I don't claim to have all the answers, nor a definitive position....
On one hand, if you want a highly successful program that deals in six figure financial numbers you have to have the person and thier experience to build/ run it. And pay them accordingly. And much money did go to vets.....vast sums also went pay folks to run the program....

As a DAV service officer, there were a few cases we just couldn't win - the WWP was able to win them for those disabled vets...

I don't know anyone that they have actually assisted. Sure, they set up 'meet ups', which is cool I guess, but I don't know if it is $300 plus a year cool. They declined to assist me, but gladly sent me a hat and a sticker. I might feel differently about them if they didn't spend so much time, money and energy going after other non-profits (which is funny, because they cleared just under $100 million in profit in 2014. Not to shabby for a non-profit).

I have heard bad PR about WWP, I am not sure if this PR is true but some recent actions have lead me to belive that this program is not 100% for the warrior.

I enrolled. Got a hat and stickers. Everyone I know that has applied for some kind of help has been turned down. Mostly limited to people right in Colorado Springs and Fayetteville.
I'll never support personally. There are too many REALLY good charities out there.

We donate lots of time, effort, and money to help support wounded warriors. Get out and get involved, it will do you good and you may find that fellowship you lost when leaving the military.
