My grandfather told me to "dig the well before I was thirsty." I really didn't pay attention to Pop until I was deployed to Iraq. I started thinking about the lessons he was trying teach me and I took action. I began a quest to connect with other veterans and to align myself with positive people. It paid off and I'm where I am today because of my network. Social Media is only a part of my network but it is an important aspect. I joined Toastmasters, my local Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary International, VFW, American Legion, and DAV. What other organizations and groups do YOU advocate to your troops? By the way, I quickly found out that I should pick ONE or TWO groups to be active in and the others - passive membership.

Good call on the limiting factors of groups to be active in and just passive in tther others. I have often found myself getting to strung out when I try and get involved in too many things. Right now I am focused on my transition and schooling and am not as active in the community as I would like to be. My wife and I are trying to get back into our church and my kids are getting involved in sports. With that it doesn't leave time for much else.
