Just an interesting article from today's Early Brief. Can agree with some of the assertions....just looking for the thought of the community.

Resume is not designed to get you a job, it is designed to get you an interview.
Working on the civilian side as well, I move the veterans applications to the next level BUT they still need to have the key skill each position requires. In other words, you cannot simply hire someone because they are a veteran but it is a factor the hiring picture.

Concur....but you still have to get in the door.....what I like about the article is, if you read it, it places onus on the individual versus the "status" they are claiming. I feel in today's world we have to many folks that sit back and expect their "status" to carry them though life instead of having to step up and put even a little bit of effort in.

Additionally, some of those sitting on their 'status' think the civilian World cares about what their status was in the military? Guess what guys and gals, the room is not going to jump to attention/parade rest just because you walked in the room.
No matter what they say Civilian industry only cares about experience, education and certifications.
At this point I would recommend people hire a professional resume writer who specializes in "translating" veteran's resumes into what civilians are looking for.
We veterans are at a disadvantage because the majority of us have never held another job prior to the military so that's all we know.

This is great advice. The smartest move I ever made was going to a job fair that had resume writers on hand to provide feedback. They tore my resume apart and gave me real insight into doing it right. I went from no calls back to lots of them in no time.
