What is the likelihood of deploying while stationed in Korea?

What are the odds I catch a deployment during my time in Korea? I just came down on orders to the 11th engineers in camp humphreys. Like most of us in this era I’ve been in 4 years with no deployment and don’t know if I plan on staying in after my tome there. It’s to my understanding that they’re relatively short staffed in Korea so it makes me think maybe I won’t be able to get one there. Can anyone with some more incite tell me what the likelihood of deploying while stationed there is?

They deployed a Brigade one time in the height of the surge in 2005/2006. That Brigade did not go back to Korea, it was moved CONUS afterward. I would not bet on being deployed. In Korea you are technically forward deployed.

I remember being there and my OER stating something like the most forward deployed unit in the Army. Really had to inflate myself at that point.

I always kind of enjoyed when 82nd people would say they are the most combat ready unit in the Army. Yeah, well you got 18 hours to deploy. 2nd ID is right there with many of the bases in artillery range of NK. Our call back time was 30 minutes and moving out of our base and into our combat assembly area within an hour.

It absolutely will not happen. Korea is considered forward deployed or forward stationed already. The one time they did deploy the Brigade in Korea the Army was in a massive surge and had deployed just about every other BCT, NG, and USAR unit they had at that point and were trying to give other units a break between rotations. You will go to Korea and then be returned to a CONUS duty station that could be deployed. Or you could reenlist for a different location. Your choice.
