Any gun aimed at me is an assault weapon, any gun I'm holding is strictly defensive, and any gun sitting on a table is a paperweight. The inclusion of a better site or a magazine doesn't change anything.

That is because the term "assault weapon" was invented by politicians as a way to make certain firearms sound scarier in an effort to ban all firearms.
"Put simply, we have no power to extend Second Amendment protections to weapons of war." Weapons of war can include rocks and sticks, yet anyone can still own them.
All this ruling does is show the rest of the country that Maryland is almost as mentally deficient as California.
