Hot take: ROTC has far better opportunities than OCS
My experience with ROTC, I had opporunities to do the following things:
Attend Air Assault school
Internship in Korea (got 2 ribbons from it)
Master's degree paid for
Basically got my top branch preference guaranteed because of super high OML
I hear stories from OCS graduates, and they had nothing like what I got from ROTC. Why doesn't OCS have any similiar programs like ROTC? I get most candidates are prior enlisted so they already have that kind of experience or had opporunities to go overseas, but regardless. Should OCS have small programs like that so candidates can learn to become officers by directly shadowing them?

It's been decades since I was in ROTC, but I think you're trying to compare apples to oranges. ROTC is geared to introducing students to the military lifestyle so is definitely going to expose them to as many options as possible and convince them to become commissioned officers in any given service. OCS on the other hand already has members of any given service and is only focused on preparing individuals to become commissioned in that service.

OCS wasn't all prior service people...I had no military background, but I already had a college degree and a determination to serve.

This is a silly comparison...ROTC has four YEARS to train officer candidates, OCS/OTS was 12 weeks.

COL Randall C. - I generally despise 2LT jokes made by NCOs until a 2LT publically makes comments worthy of said jokes.

Don't most OCS candidates already have years of enlisted service?

No. It is an avenue for a college grad to become an officer without any other training. In my opinion, it is the toughest way to commission.

MAJ Byron Oyler - While physically, tactically and academically there was nothing I thought was particularly challenging to most Prior Service, especially those coming from Combat Arms units, TAC's made life miserable. Drills I had were pretty impressive soldiers, TAC's was just another assignment, or so it seemed to me. In general, I disliked all my TAC's and nothing has changed my mind since.
I finished tied for Top Student.
