I was kind of shocked that I haven't seen something about it from all the Marines on RP yet. (I am looking at you Capt Richard I P.).

Here a news story on it.

http://www.stripes.com/news/sgt-maj-ronald-l-green-named-top-enlisted-marine-1.324806

Now I had not really looked at Sgt Maj Green's bio (here it is: http://www.imef.marines.mil/Leaders/tabid/3952/Article/535479/sergeant-major-ronald-l-green.aspx) yet when I seen this quip on everyone's favorite Marine cartoon Terminal Lance:

"Naturally, the Facebooks and the Twitters exploded with questions about why a Marine with no combat experience was fit to lead the Marine Corps over anyone else. To me, this move made the Return of the Peacetime all the more clear. The hard men and women who fought and survived the brutality of Iraq and Afghanistan are no longer needed. As combat deployments disappear, the dichotomy of experience levels will continue to blur, with combat or no combat no longer being a relevant measure of potential or success."

Now I wont say that the good Sgt Maj has no combat experience as he clear has an Iraq deployment under his belt but is likely reference his lack of a CAR.

Regardless of what the Terminal Lance thinks, the Sgt Maj looks squared away with a decade of drill instructor experience. Some of the best CMSAF have been prior MTI's so I can't see that as a bad thing.

Marines, What say you?

As a Marine who served under him while he was the I&I 1stSgt of Bravo Company, 1/23d Marines, I can honestly say that he is one hell of a squared - away Marine who will do his job (advising the CMC and JC) to beyond the best of his abilities. He's one hell of a Marine. He will do us proud.
