First I would like to thank you Sir for your service and thank you for what you do for veterans through Walmart.
My only question would be, why does Walmart limit their hiring of honorably discharged veterans within their first year off active duty? Why would they not make that offer to anyone who has an honorable discharge and is qualified for the job they are applying for?

Exactly. Honorable service is honorable service.

Thanks for your service...Walmart values and hires veterans with different characterizations of service. But, we chose to focus the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment on those honorably discharged since Memorial Day 2013. Our reasoning was simple - we believed that in the midst of a crisis in veteran unemployment that was where we could help the most.

BG Gary Profit, thank you for joining us on RallyPoint and for the meaningful work you have done at Walmart for our military community. For vets and service members in transition that are joining this Q&A, what should we all know about the available career paths at Walmart where you've seen members of the military community join, stay and love their roles?

Adding from SPC Dobbs; thanks for your service BG Profit. How can Walmart change to accept honorably discharged both, past and present, troops in roles that can give Walmart an edge while making their contributions meaningful, both professionally and personally?

Thanks for your service Dave and your long partnership...opportunities at Walmart are limitless. We have roles for nearly everyone except astronauts, for now.

Military spouses are a group of highly educated, under or unemployed because of frequent moves. Does Walmart have any sort of hiring or employment plan for them?

Thanks for your service...we have been a member of the Army Spouse Employment Partnership and the Military Spouse Employment Partnership, arguably since their inceptions. In addition to reportedly being the largest employer of military spouses, we turn jobs into careers through the Military Family Promise. MFP guarantees a job to a military spouse, for example, at a nearby store or club, when their uniformed spouse is transitioned by the U.S. military.

Hi Sir,
Thanks for your time. My question is fairly simple: what are Walmart's "Military Programs" and what kinds of incentives does Walmart offer for it's veteran employees and customers?

Thank you for taking the time to answer questions General.
When you think of branding for a business, do you imagine a company brand is the personable thought/action moved to a physical image?

Thanks for your service, Mark...I think you're referring to trademarks and logos and other intellectual property; rather, I believe that Walmart's brand lives in the hearts, minds and actions of our associates and is a manifestation of our mission to help our customers save money and time so that they can live better.

BG Profit; we appreciate your service and we appreciate your joining us here on RP.

My question is a very simple one. I retired over a decade ago from the Army. I am currently in India, South Asia. I wish to work with Walmart in South Asia and I have the experience, knowledge and skills to give Walmart an edge. However, a U.S. veteran doesn't stand a chance in India without endorsement from senior management in the U.S. Kindly tell us how we can overcome such hurdles and obstacles in the path of our success after serving. Can we apply through you, Sir?

Thanks for spending the time with us BG Gary Profit. Knowing how much you’ve grown the veterans program at Walmart over the years, what have been some of your favorite milestones to celebrate as a team?

Hi Brandon, it's good to see your picture. An early favorite milestone was the opportunity to introduce a young Marine veteran Walmart associate to the President and First Lady and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. He had been medically retired and found it difficult to find a job. He applied for a part-time hourly job at a Walmart store in the Jacksonville, NC area and when we met him, he had been promoted five times in four years and was in the asst. manager training program. Interestingly enough, he was more impressed with meeting the Commandant than anyone else.

For those of us who have and continue to try and support our transitioning veterans and those involved in education and then looking for follow on employment, how can we become better engaged with your strategy to connect the dots and link the right folks up with the right folks at Walmart?

Thanks for your service, Col Anderson...as we might have said previously, the best advice I can give is for any veteran interested in joining the Walmart team to access http://walmartcareerswithamission.com/ - it's arguably the most elegant process that a company of our size and scale has in the marketplace.

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
