I agree brother! Bergdahl would have been in front of a firing squad when desertion to the enemy was considered a bad choice.

Life in prison for Pvt Bergdal; 100 lashes in public for the dumb asses who approved swapping 5 Taliban for a deserter.

Firing squad is more appropriate. Going over to the enemy in wartime is a capitol offense.

it is with great sorrow that I read this news. This marks the beginning of the end in the military discipline. it is only expected that in the near future more and more " soldiers " use their free speech when they desert their post simply because they don't like the way the army functions. it is such a shame to observe and live through times like this. I lost several soldiers and friends while in the service, and not once did I ever witness such cowardice in the face of the enemy. I am so sad to see this happening... DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY.

I saw this coming with the POTUS that was in charge and the officers enjoined to bring the rule of law with military justice. Putting it bluntly it makes me sick think that this person was promoted to SGT without the proper training of development of progressive training and experience. In my thoughts he was a deserter based on the investigation. This in itself sets an out for future soldiers that took the oath to have an out if they want to unass the AO.

Since someone resurrected this old thread;
A very good read on the subjection of desertion:

"The Deserters: A Hidden History of World War II"

Does this verdict mean, if I don't like my discharge, I can get it changed to something better?

Apparently. And you probably never even plead guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy.

MAJ Granger is spot on in all aspects of his adroit analysis. There were options available to POTUS obama to get the traitor back into US forces hands, yet he chose to give up HVTs "in exchange". Why?

The duty/purpose of UCMJ is for the order and discipline of the armed forces. It has been carefully constructed to meet all requirements of justice under the constant cloud of operations in war. The sentence of the traitor obviates its purpose. It isn't the first time during GWOT that the pentagon generals have sided with the desires of the politicos.
On our side, our (US Army) Special Forces Groups could not shoot sentries without sending them a Hallmark invitation according to our ROI (that was directly from POTUS obama.).

In the FBI I was taught to connect the dots! The New Democrats! It hurts me to call someone a Democrat new or old when I was an Old Democrat for about 40yr's! Although as I hear that Joe Biden (actually watch a Video of him giving a speech this last weekend) where he calls ANYONE THAT DISAGREES WITH HIM DIRT/FILTH! I would not want anything to do with that group! Then the old Sec. of State Hillary Clinton suggesting that we need to SCRAP the CONSTITUTION creates great concern! All the things that Democrats are doing are all one Brick Short of a Load! Sad!

Under UCMJ Bergdahl should have gotten the death penalty! Injuries or death of fellow soldiers in the attempt of rescue of a deserter warrants the death penalty not a slap on the wrist. The judge should be relieved of duty!

I agree! XPres. Obama handled Bergdahl about as poorly as that of our Ambassador that was murdered! Then you add Iran! Wow! I have always been religious telling friends that I go to church off and on but I carry my Religion with me every day every were just as I did when I was serving in Vietnam!
