Lesson is if you plan to leave your post, run toward the enemy hope for exchange, most you will get is fine reduction in rank , loss of some pay and dishonorable discharge which can be expunged from your record. Egregious miscarriage of justice. He should have received nothing less than life and at most death.

As an old guy I wonder if any of these "Officers" in this trail have held a weapon and walk a patrol. Seen anyone die? Because of Bergdahl men died, as such, his life should be forfeit. The military has grow soft over the years and this shows it. The military is not a democracy, there is no free speech, desertion in the face of the enemy should automatically get the rope. If this sound too harsh, maybe you shouldn't stand a post or watch against the evil out there that wishes to crush this great nation. Try a job like Starbucks!

In my mind I see this Trvaesty of justice encouraging Cowardice in the face of the enemy, Desertion, TREASON because 'bird-dog' was teaching the Enemy to build Better ied's & better placement for More American Deaths! I was in AFG at the time & the province 'bird-dog' was in had the hifgest Kill rate of all provinces! The INJUSTICE was influenced greatly by ohomo, the QUEER, muslim, illegal alien president at the time!

The only thing I will say is this. There was no way he should've been there in the First place. Involuntarily separated from Coast Guard for Psychiatric issues. Then Given a waver to enlist. All his actions were wrong but those of a man that had no business there. Why was he allowed to be there is also a question that should be asked.

Well written Maj Granger; honor, truth, integrity, faithfulness - all have become even more tarnished and of less value in the eyes of the public. The Honorable Discharge has become valued only among our veterans and still serving brothers and sisters because of decisions like Manning and Bergdahl. Our population consists of 96% non-service personnel protected by the 4% who will; yet the values of that 4% are often scoffed by the ones they serve and protect. When political expediency becomes more important than moral values we all lose something important, but very, very few care.

I hated the idea of this thing, yes I call it a thing. Turned his back on his fellow soldiers and our country and the so called president at the time sets free 5 in return. How is it that it says we do not negotiate with terrorists but delt out 5 for a traitor. I see it in one way, we got him back to pay for his crimes against our soldiers, but set free 5 killers. Politics and the power that comes with it is what it was all about. Protect our country is what we are supposed to do, what are we here for?
