VBA-
The Office of Transition and Economic Developments (TED) mission is to ease the Veteran’s transition experience. Established in 2018, by the Under Secretary of Benefits, the Office of Transition and Economic Development is VBA’s newest business line, creating accountability and transparency as VA’s authority on the military life cycle and transition assistance. From when you first join the military to when you start your post-military life, TED is here to help you achieve success anytime, anywhere.
Mental Health and Suicide Prevention-
VA's public health strategy to suicide prevention combines partnerships with communities to implement tailored, local prevention plans, while also focusing on evidence based clinical strategies for intervention. Our approach focuses on what we can do now, in the short term, as well as what we can do in the long term, to implement VA’s National Strategy for Preventing Veteran Suicide. Many Veterans may not engage with VHA, so it is necessary to collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies to provide Veterans with resources, evidenced-based therapies, and the tools they need to reach them where they live, work, and thrive. Together, we all make a difference.
Appeals-

The Board’s jurisdiction extends to all questions in a matter involving a decision by the Secretary under the law that affects a provision of benefits by the Secretary to Veterans, their dependents, or their survivors. 38 U.S.C. §§ 511(a); 7104(a). Final decisions on appeals are made by the Board based on the entire record in the proceeding and all applicable provisions of law and regulation. 38 U.S.C. § 7104(a).

Hon. Cheryl Mason:
Why are things not rated “service connected” when they occur and are documented in a Combat Zone? Why, does the Vet get punished (denied service connected) when the Medical personnel IN A COMBAT ZONE don’t spend the time to 100% diagnose issues (I.e. HBP, constipation, etc...)according to preferred guidelines (over a 5 day period multiple times a day)? It doesn’t seem fair or ethical to punish Vets for medical issues not being treated/documented properly when deployed.

Under the law, service connection requires a current diagnosis, an injury or event in service, and a connection between the two. You can submit statements from buddies or emails you wrote home or your own journal to support that an event or injury occurred in service if there are no medical records of treatment. you do not always need a diagnosis, sometimes treatment record will suffice for the examiner to review and provide an opinion. Medical opinions can consider the Veteran's statements and combat zone service.

With Covid restrictions keep many of us home for work and school. The requirement to have high speed internet is imperative for veterans in rural communities to receive medial care, work from home, and/or get an education. What programs or services are available to assist veterans and military familes over come barries to obtaining reliable internet ?
Several year ago I applied for veterans benefits but was told I made too much money. I don't understand why I am not eligible. I served my country just like many others. Why am I not entitled to benefits?
MAJ (Join to see)
I feel your frustration. Many years back I went to the VA to get help finding a better job. All I wanted was help with my resume and maybe a few websites I can go through to apply. Between the many phone calls the VA rep took about HER GI Bill, and HER disability assistance she finally told me they can’t help because I had a job and a degree. Then went back to HER personal phone call! Keep at it!
MAJ (Join to see)
LCpl Shad Gragg - Ya. I trust a rattlesnake before i trust the VA. Gotten no where with them and have no love for that place.
Wet why did the regional office move back all pending cases that already had decisions
My father is a veteran and receiving a pension from the VA. He is in hospice care. To whom should I direct notice of his passing to terminate the benefit payments?
Maj Bonnie Carroll
Dear Bruce, I am so very sorry to hear of your father's failing health. In order to notify the Department of Veterans Affairs of a veterans passing, you should contact them directly at [login to see] to initiate the process. They will likely require a copy of the death certificate when it becomes available. TAPS is also here 24/7 to provide support and comfort to all those grieving the death of a military loved one. We are available at 800.959.TAPS (8277). Sending love and hope, Bonnie Carroll
Melissa Comeau
Dear Mr. Kappeler, I just wanted to share my care and concern for you and your father during this difficult time. I hope someone from the VA or TAPS can answer your question.
Why is it that a disabled veteran like myself at 70% cannot get dental work done at the VA what can we do to change this I cannot afford dental work out here in civilian world
My brother is also a disabled Vet. His medication ran out because he was not paying attention. How can he get his antidepressants quickly so that he does not fall back into alcoholism and severe depression? Right now it ways 3 weeks...can he go to a VA clinic to get a Rx?
SP5 Jamie Shomaker
If his VA is like the Leavenworth one; He can send a secure message on the myhealthyvet website to talk to his doctor to get a 10 day supply issued at the VA pharmacy. If he is not registered on myhealthyvet.gov he should be able to call and talk to the clinic to leave a message. I am guessing since you said antidepressants that he sees psyc. They do pretty good about refilling/doing temporary refills to get them through until the full px is mailed. Unless you want to pick up the full amount in person. They may do that, some require mailing larger quantities. Just sharing experiences- I am not an expert. Just another patient.
SP5 Jamie Shomaker
I am sorry, I misread a little bit of it. I read it as if he was already an established patient. If he is not already and he is in need to this extent; Call the Psyc department to see if they can assist immediately. If not; ER visit at the VA for mental health crisis. They will get it figured out and then, they can work on the documentation side of things afterwards to get him established...... Sorry, it would not let me edit the previous comment.
TSgt James Sutton
I have been able to make an emergency appointment when I ran out, was out of state in a different area too so it can be done, give the clinic a call and see what they say can be done.
I was medically discharged in 1997, .y children are both over the age of 26, and I am rated at 100% (not T&P).
What benefits if and do my kids and Wife have?
What benefits if and do my kids and Wife have?

Thank you for posting your question. Please visit our website to find out what additional benefits you may be eligible for at https://benefits.va.gov/benefits/ or call one of our representatives at [login to see] .
Apply for and manage the VA benefits and services you’ve earned as a Veteran, Servicemember, or family member—like health care, disability, education, and more.

MAJ Eva Weatherley - The Veteran Direct Care program, implemented in 2009, is for Vets of all ages that are at risk of nursing home placement. Alot of VA's do not know about this program, such as the Atlanta VA and some of the VA's refuse the program, such as the Montgomery VA. This program will save the VA money and help veterans in need. My father needs this program, especially during this covid time yet noone will help get this program implemented in the Alabama CAVHS. How can we get help with this and why is this program not mandatory? Why does the Montgomery Chief social worker keep rejecting the program when this program should be going to the Director? Montgomery was supposed to be one of the 1st pilot programs. The Alabama Aging Consortium is certified to administer the program, yet it is 2020 and the Montgomery VA still refuses it.
