Thank you all for joining us for this virtual event. Given social distancing, I think many family members are more rapidly becoming caregivers for children, sick loved ones and aging family members. How does your organization help the military community 1) realize when they are actually becoming a caregiver in the less obvious cases (not catastrophic injuries, cancer, etc.) and 2) understand what COVID-triggered and permanent resources are available to help us make that transition?

Lisa Pape - Hi Lisa if your response was to my disabled veteran mom's post. Ummm, for me both my husband and I are disabled veterans. We are each others supports and do what we can to care for each other. I have found resources for caregivers are great toward disabilities others can see like being wheelchair bound for example. Those that are chronic and mental health in nature leave some of us fending for ourselves and continually struggling with accepting our own limitation since serving our country. As you all continue your efforts please consider the vast demographic of your disabled veteran community. Also that children of veterans without physically visible disabilities are impacted every day too. Resources to support veteran families of this nature would be greatly appreciated.

What assistance is there for widows/caregivers who've become homeless after a veteran spouse passes. I was his caregiver from 1998 to 2019.

I am a caregiver for State of CA. I am able to add another client to my workload. Do I have to be certified with the VA to offer my support to Veterans? Any training I must do?

Hello Caitlin. Thanks for responding. I am a Service Coordinator working with HUD subsidized senior housing. I have several veterans who consistently need help with resources. I do my best with what I know from a civilian standpoint. I would love to be in contact with your organization if they could provide other resources for these residents.

Why does a veteran have to fight harder when they return than when they fought the enemy?

CPL Johnny Dixon I remember a few years ago they put tons of money into the system. They hired a lot of people and made it even more inefficient. They added many administrative positions which were trained by those who did nothing to help the veteran and they became really good at doing less. Then they came up with this fast track process where they were really quick at telling you no. I personally cannot complain about the medical care. The approval process took over 10 years to get approved correctly.

Then tell me why I must go in front of a board, to tell my story on why I think I should get more disability then I'm getting. It doesn't take 10 years for these politicians to get there medical care for life, along with a pension after being in office for a couple of years. Tell me how this fare to those who put there life on the line, to be told that there medical conditions aren't military connected. Can someone please help me and my brothers who gave there bodies and life to help keep this country safe. Can be treated like garbage when we leave the military.

CPL Johnny Dixon it is unexcusable as it is unfair but it happens. All of the fanfare and claims that veterans are well taken care of and happy are just politics. We should make sure we send a message that is clear to the current administration. We aren't happy and we want chznge.

CPL Johnny Dixon - because there are a LOT of folks claiming service connected disability when it is not or they are way overstating the claim. We shoot our own wounded when we do that. I know you remember a lot of jackasses in the ranks when we served. Now they are out and are still making it rough on the rest of us. Hang in there Corporal. I am pretty sure they will backdate if you are successful.

I have an appeal which is pending a higher-level review teleconference. I am paying $1,500/month toward a VA debt that was improperly calculated. I have submitted all documentation proving this to be wrong and I am about to be homeless because the higher-level review hasnt happened yet. I am going to be reimbursed approximately $24,000 once the review occurs over the telephone. Its been 3 or 4 months since Ive requested a higher-level review and Ive done approximately 3 "Inquiries" via the [login to see] number. I have not received ANY phone calls or answers explaining why this isnt handled. I am about to be homeless all because of a VA error. If i become homeless, I WILL GIVE UP. I am 100% service-connected with a very serious mental illness, all the medical research and medical resources say i have the worst mental illness to live day-to-day with, its a personality disorder and im not disclosing which one--ill say its a cluster B and thats it. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME. I could keep rambling about how badly this has affected me but it probably wont help at all because nobody with the VA has cared to help yet. Im not upset, please dont confuse my comment as such, Im tired and disappointed that i am being discarded once again.

The Honorable Cheryl Mason I have contacted a VSO(again), and i am driving 2 hours away to their office at the Mountain Home VAMC. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment back to me. I hope something will happen afterward, but I am not going to get my hopes up because, thus far, for 2 years, I have slipped through the holes somehow. I am at a complete loss at what to do now, hence my correspondence to you. Can you please direct me to someone that can help?

The Honorable Cheryl Mason Well, seeing how an arrearage of $25k is at stake, i would rather meet in person and hand-carry my documents with me. There has been an ample amount of problems thus far, so maybe this is the best course of action. But, i am going to email Mr. Caraway in a few moments. Thank you for this contact info. Hopefully, it will be taken care of now. Thanks again.
