BLUF:What now.

My job is amazing. I work as a Safety manager and an environmental Coordinator (government employee). Finished my bachelors in business management with the GI bill in 2008, cancer in 2014, multiple surgeries/chemo/radiation, etc. Lost several organs, run like a broken frog, neuropathy on the left side, stents in my veins so they don’t cave in, lost my left kidney due to too much radiation and have migraines (vomiting, lost bowels sometimes) now between 3-5x a week. I am returning to school to reinvent myself before the migraines take every day of the week. I sometimes cannot remember what I was currently doing. There’s also the fun of a deep vibration that will pop off in my head and make me dizzy/not hear/sight is cock-eyed for 30 straight seconds...then completely disappear. The mind is failing me and I am trying to get my masters (I am paying for it) before it is gone....but, I have straight A’s! Too young to retire, too much pain and physically broken to keep my job and the money is really good. What do I do now? Oh, and my spouse is still active duty. We will not know if he gets promoted or retires until the very last minute (Jan 2021.) Either here is promoted or has 5/6 months left. Whew!

Please accept our condolences for your loss. If your mother was receiving retirement benefits after serving a career in the military, you will want to direct your question to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS). They may be reached at http://www.dfas.mil

But if your question relates to something else, please feel free to reach out to us at [login to see]

My husband served in Vietnam and his records were destroyed and had to be redone and now because his DD214 does not show what it needs to too prove he was in Vietnam he does not qualify for medical benefits , so unfair that no one I’ve reached out to is willing to help, pitiful

Rhonda Fancera - thank you for reaching out and advocating on behalf of your husband. I am truly sorry to hear about this. I represent VA's Vet Centers that actually were originally founded by Vietnam Veterans, for Vietnam Veterans. It is our job and honor to provide counseling services to those who served in Vietnam, among others. This includes socio-economic needs, helping to advocate and connect people such as your husband to available resources. We would love to see how we may assist, and if there's anything else the both of you could benefit from that we provide. If it sounds like something you would be interested in, I would love to have your local Vet Center outreach specialist connect with you and your husband. Please feel free to send me your zip code and a telephone number or email address you can be contacted at. It is with humble gratitude to say to your husband, "Welcome Home."

Thank you for posting your comment. The VA can submit a specific request to the NPRC for any additional service records they may have or can find for your husband. The NPRC searches for documents that may help to reconstruct the destroyed records. They may also reach out to other government agencies. For example, they may try to reconstruct portions of the service treatment records by reviewing unit records, morning reports, and hospital admission records from the surgeon general's office. Please visit the following website for more information regarding reconstructing your husband's records: https://www.va.gov/records/get-military-service-records/reconstruct-records/

Thanks! I have wrote and faxed and still no help, his records were destroyed before exiting so they were re created however nothing on the DD214 showing he was” boots on the ground” in Vietnam so I’m not sure what to do next, I have talked to everyone from our local office to faxing Washington All he is trying to do is get Medical benefits and can’t because we can’t prove this, so very frustrating, he deserves at least that

I am already discharged. I paid my GI Bill and never used it. I got out of the army in 92. Is there a way that I can receive my $1,200 that came out of my check when I first join the military?

Thank you for your question Umar-Jihad. Only individuals who did not use all their entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill will not receive a refund of contributions paid under the Montgomery GI Bill. The MGIB program doesn't have a refund policy by law.

Thank you for posting your comment. Home loans are provided by private lenders and mortgage companies. The VA home loan guarantee only guarantees the portion of the loan enabling the lender to provide you with more favorable terms. First and foremost, God Bless you all! My question is where can I find help to get back on the road to keep working. I lost my job due to Covid just three months after relocating for the position. I just need to remain mobile with reliable transportation so that I can get to and from a new job. I have a vehicle that is inoperable and in need of major repair. What resource(s) are available to make this possible?

Please check out these valuable resources at: https://www.taps.org/covid/government. From here you will also be able to connect with our page dedicated to resources by each state, resources for Military survivors, and resources for the American Public.
