Hi I’ve applied 19 times in the last 3 yrs but have not gotten a job. What can I do to increase my chances. I need to work with my vets. I understand them.
MSG Darren Sherrard
Don't give up. Sometimes people apply to hundreds of positions before getting hired. Contacting a VA recruiter may speed the job application process and help you get an interview. To find a recruiter, go to vacareers.va.gov/VARecruiter.
Are they offering any internship, fellowship through the VA hospital for Healthcare Administration???
MSG Darren Sherrard
VA offers one of the most comprehensive education support programs in the nation. See what's available at https://www.vacareers.va.gov/Benefits/EducationSupport/#supportpaths.

Are you kidding me?? Veteran, BA degree,15 years experience in material handling NO CRIMINAL RECORD. I reply to this email AND IT DOESN'T ACCEPT EMAILS!
That facility is riddled with cronyism and i am assuming gross incompetence.
I know a person who was a shoe in to the VA as a counselor who never served, no college, and no experience for the past 7 years.
The difference? His father has connections there.
Not sure what to accomplish with this, but it needs to be told and heard. The amount of pain from my time in the Navy and the constant disappointment of the VA is sickening.

I am retired and was Chief Finance Officer for a company I was part owner and later sold and retired. At my age, 72, I would like get back in the work force and is my age going to make it difficult? And would part time be a hindrance ?
MSG Darren Sherrard
VA offers part-time, as well as full-time positions for qualified applicants of all ages. Check out career opportunities with VA at vacareers.va.gov.
I've been out for 7 years. Being a disabled Vet, it's very hard to find or hold a job. Sometimes I feel like I'm not the right kind of Veteran. 2 wars and Honorable maybe isn't enough.
Why is it so hard to get hired by the VA? I applied for a position and I received the reply that I did not qualified but yet as a navy corpsman I have plenty of experience. I called the number provided and NEVER received a call back.
MSG Darren Sherrard
Competition, many vets applying for the same positions. Former military corpsmen and medics have the skills and training needed by civilian intermediate care technicians (ICTs). Explore available ICT positions at https://www.vacareers.va.gov/Careers/IntermediateCare.

PO1 Guillermina Lorenzoni
MSG Darren Sherrard - I understand the competition but when I obviously have experience in the position I applied for, and I received an email stating that I don’t have enough experience that tells me my resume was not even looked at. I’m a retired navy corpsman I have plenty of experience, 20 years of experience. So I’m still waiting from a response from someone that works at the VA to clarify how they came up to the conclusion I don’t have enough experience.
Greetings and thank you all for this opportunity to ask questions. I have recently taken a position with a Veterans Services Office at a university. I will be their Program Coordinator overseeing professional development. This is a new position for the VSO and I'm just trying to make contacts and gather information. One of my responsibilities will be to help the military-affiliated students find internships and possible job opportunities. Do your companies have a particular individual in your offices I could communicate with to discuss such opportunities? Also, do you have any staff members who give talks or workshops to universities? Thank you. (just so you know my former husband is a veteran and my two sons are veterans)
