How good are the odds of getting hired for an IT repair position when a person is in their mid 60's but still wants to work for several more years? I am A+ certified and looking for something in computer/network repair.

Absolutely! Depending on your skill set, we always have needs for IT trained individuals. The best bet is to search for a role that matches your skills by using keywords at jobs.amazon.com. For example, put in A+ or if you have system admin access, try searching for those 1st.

Hi, what other careers can be recommended for somebody who also has 25 years of law enforcement experience? I understand an insurance investigator may be a start. Thank you.

If you like law enforcement, you may be able to stay in that field. Depending on your skill set, search for a role that matches those skills by using keywords at jobs.amazon.com. For example, if you have experience within a SOC, try searching for those 1st.

After getting medically retired, I did a career change to IT. I went from help desk intern to now IT Consultant, got my Associates, a CCNA along with a handful of other certs, and am almost done my BS in NetOps and Security from WGU. All in about 5 years.

What kind of IT opportunities are there for vets with experience and a degree? Do you see more IT jobs staying remote after all of this COVID situation?

Hello, I am a retired SFC currently in DFW. I am looking for an internship with any company that is taking veterans. I have a AA, BA, Masters and 2- Post Graduate Degrees. I am looking to expand thru employment while I continue to pursue a PhD. I have found that there aren't many employers that assist employees at this level of education. I have found it harder to get a call back if I mention my education than if I just say I have a BA. I like to find an employer that is willing to give a veteran with post-graduate education a chance and it has been my experience that at that level I am supposed to have years of experience in the field (My degrees are in Management, Organizational leadership and human capital), and while the military provide plenty of experience, it does not provide civilian experience expected fo someone with that level of education (it is hard to explain that I am almost a PhD holder with no civilian -all military- experience). Please contact me at your convenience.

Nope. Did Medical for my entire career and have no intention to go back and retake bio/chem/math and all the classes that have a 5-7 year limit before having to re-take. I spent 12 years shaking my education to be used for promotion potential. I was waiting for E-8 board results when I got injured in deployment that led to my medical retirement. Been doing management since I was a SGT and every degree led me to fast track for SGM... unfortunately that’s life. I chosen to go the administrative route and loved it. I wanted to focus on a passion (leading, mentoring and being a good administrator Vs seeing patients day-in and out)...

Focusing on recovering time lost with my family but also looking forward to being part of an organization that need a good leader and administrator.CWO2 Jay Callihan

Good Evening, I want to get my foot in the door at one of these reputable companies. I just recently retired from the Army after 21 years. I have applied just about everywhere but I feel I am so much more valuable than just a warehouse worker. I am willing to work from the ground up, but I want good advancement opportunities. What advice would you give me to start getting my feet planted in a business? My background is mostly Law Enforcement but I dabbled in logistics as well.

Thank you for your service SFC Davis and for posting your question. I would encourage you to consider applying for ACP's program which provides post-9/11 veterans with a Mentor from one of ACP's 90+ Corporate Partners. Mentors can be exceptionally helpful upon transition from the military into a civilian workforce. ACP mentorships are free of charge, one-on-one, customized and yearlong. ACP Mentors have been very effective at helping their veteran Proteges develop and refine the skills needed to be successful within a particular field or organization as well. Please take a look at our site (https://www.acp-usa.org/mentoring-program/veteran-application) for additional information

Good afternoon Alexandra,
The VA hires attorneys. The Board of Veterans Appeals' has approximately 850 attorneys who practice Veterans Law. We routinely announce on USAJOBS. Additionally, VA's Office of General Counsel also hires attorneys who practice in many legal areas including compliance.

I'm separating in 2021 and going to work towards starting up a local farm growing produce. I've heard that Walmart has some kind of "local produce" section, and I know that Amazon has a produce delivery option now too. Is there a way for veteran farmers to get into these? (There is already an organization for veteran farmers, the Veteran Farmer Coalition, but there is no current coordination between VFC and/or Walmart and Amazon.)

The best way to get your foot in the door for produce delivery online is to start selling through Whole Foods and begin local with the buyer at your closest store.

Looking at transitioning from my current career field of aviation maintenance to IT/cyber security. Progressing through school and take itf+ certification test soon will be looking into a+ as well in near future. What do I need to look at for finding a job to assist in the field now to put my knowledge I am gaining now to work.

Thank you, I have been in the VR&E program for over 2 years now. The Corona Virus situation has made it complicated to actively job hunt in the area of my education.
