Dr. Jennifer O.
As many organizations think about return-to-work policies and practices, one key group to consider is caregivers. Whether a friend or family member, a caregiver is often more focused on the well-being of the Veteran they care for than themselves. How are caregivers supported in your organization's return-to-work plans? And, are there any changes or additions that you made for COVID that you found were good for the employees and that you plan to keep?

Great question Jennifer. Some of the lessons learned from remote work might help in this area and expanded remote roles are just the start.

Hello and thank you for hosting this upcoming event!
Looking at the other comments there are some great questions with employment topics ranging from diversity and disability! I too have been struggling to simply find clinical experience for my emergent care clinical rotation as a family nurse practitioner. I have had two cancellations already at the beginning of the semester. Would anyone know of any contacts with the VA that are open for students?

VA conducts the largest medical education effort in the country: more than 120,000 health profession trainees received intensive clinical training in 2017. Please visit the Students and Trainees page of the VA Careers website at https://www.vacareers.va.gov/Careers/StudentsTrainees/ for information that may help.

Hello, I'm a veteran from from the US Navy and served active duty from 2007-2011. I'm currently a police officer and have been since 2012. I now have a wife and four children who I love. Sadly, due to the recent events with the murder of George Floyd, police officers have been targeted around the country.
Locally, where I currently live and my hometown, officer's homes are being targeted as well. I am interested in new employment. I'm great with people and customer service. I live/work in Northern Indiana.

Thank You

Hi there from another Navy vet! Are you open to relocating? While Amazon does have some opportunities in Indiana they can be limited. Alternatively, you can also look for roles that are remote and work from home. I recommend visiting amazon.jobs to start your search, we also have weekly webinars for the military community about the various opportunities we have for veterans and spouses:https://amazonmilitarywebinarseries.splashthat.com/

I am in the career search stage with the VA’s vocational rehabilitation employment CH31. Obviously not the most advantageous time due to the current national health emergency. Are there employers still hiring within legal and administrative positions? How are employers hiring during this pandemic (telecommunications or virtually)? I am finding the career search to be disheartening and it’s difficult for me to remain optimistic when the data looks horrible. Do you have any advice for veterans in this career search position? Thank you.

Thank you, I am exhausting all of the available options to find gainful employment. USAJOBS is included, while there are positions available the qualifications required are beyond mine. Example: paralegal position requires a LL.M or masters of law which requires a JD further they require a minimum 5 year work within a law firm or conducting legal analysis. Paralegal or Legal secretary are entry level positions in essence the individuals they want have made it through law school, but failed the bar examination. Civilian firms offer more opportunities for entry level work than those available on USAJOBs which have been open since 2016 because no with the qualifications will take the positions.

COL Brynt Parmeter - Working for a State Agency in California as a LVER, Local Veterans Employment Representative, and am wondering: how many of the companies on the discussion have Military Translators on their hiring pages so that a Veteran can easily look into certain positions within a company based upon their MOS? I know so do, but not all...if I am correct?

ALSO, I get emails from certain companies/Recruiters from certain companies (on this discussion board) stating that we can email them back with potential applicants, but when this happens, it takes a very long time to get some type of response. Is there some way we can get not only the Recruiter info for our area (Region/State), but also a local contact who knows what the Recruiter is doing (putting out there that there are positions within the company, within our local communities -- there seems to be a disconnect between the Recruiter and the local POC for said company. The local POC tells us THEY ARE NOT HIRING, even after showing them the emails/fliers the Recruiters are publishing. This really disheartens Veteran job seekers and really puts a stain on the company...especially when companies tout that they are a "Veteran-friendly" company. I know there are other ways the employer can tout they are Veteran-friendly, but this initial experience ruins things.
