Cowardly men will be cowardly whether you add females to combat roles or not.

You win RP for the day. I'd add that there will be cowardly women, too.

President Carter proved that by pardoning the lot of them that high tailed it to Canada, and other draft avoiding countries.

I agree with that. In 38 years of service, one of the most powerful things I learned is to never assess someone's courage by using your own courage or lack thereof as a yardstick and to never needle somebody else over it. For some, I suppose it uses up all the courage they have just to enlist. Others (some of whom I've served with) should've been issued a big red S for their uniform. My daughter is also a retired combat vet (2 OIF tours), Purple Heart recipient and probably the most courageous Soldier I've ever known personally.

If women (and we can lump the LGBTQ community) are capable of doing the same jobs, live in the same conditions (dorms, showers and restrooms) without changing the standards or adding new accommodations, then I'm all for it.

BUT thats in a perfect world and the world is not perfect.

Well, that is a strange statement because the first part of it makes perfect sense.. "If (they, anyone) are capable ... then (you're) all for it."

Then you sort of sideways hint about something that would contradict that, but you don't say what it is, just that "the world is not perfect."

So, if you're NOT all for it, then ... why not?

Tip for dealing with this kind of change, you can improve your text by replacing "women (etc etc)" with just "soldiers." And as far as standards, look at them carefully ... they may not be high enough yet, and that would be the main problem. If a job requires more than it says in the standard, raise the standard ... for everyone.

CPT Ray Doeksen - In a perfect, gender neutral world, you would not have to consider social and political issues associated with berthing separate genders in a combat zone. I don't mean the FOBBITs, I mean real combat zones where men and women live, eat sleep, in the same area/room/bathroom/etc. As for standards, there are two separate PT standards...that apply to men and women separately. I'm simply saying I agree with the overall idea but simply acknowledging the societal, political realities. In a perfect world, the military would be like "Starship Troopers" where men and women fight, shower, sleep together and no one bats an eye.

I'm on the fence about this article, the writer pushes the fact that he doesn't want his daughter to go fight in a war if drafted while able bodied men stand by. My thing is if everyone is registered for the draft then how would these able bodied men be hanging out on the side lines? Same way as I'm sure some women will try to dodge the draft.

Progressives pushed for equality across the board in combat arms and now they got what they wanted and some want to back-peddle now because they didn't foresee the change to the draft. Equal Rights right?! I don't see a massive influx of women at the recruiters office demanding 11B or any other hard charging MOS it's just not happening because the masses didn't want it.

I also don't agree with his comment about the US not fighting against other progressive countries and that the fight wouldn't be stacked in our favor. That comment to me is the most ridiculous, we're the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA man or women mixed into our fighting forces does not make for a weaker force and to say that suggests you don't believe in the ability of our forces currently.
