I do believe you will need to provide a lease for him to start BAH. Court Alexander

SSG (Join to see) I think that's only a reserve rule. When my kids were CONUS while I was OCONUS I only had to provide their address for BAH. In the NG I had to provide a lease for BAH when I was activated

SFC (Join to see) There is no requirement to show a lease. As long as he is married he should be receiving BAH for the location that his spouse is in.

With your particular situation, your husband will need to talk to finance to see if he can get BAH since you will be residing with your parents. If you are paying your parents rent for being there, he will possibly get it. If you are not paying rent, he will possibly not get it. Again, he will need to speak with his finance to get clear, solid guidance.

BAH is for the dependents not the service member. Housing/barracks is provided for the service member.

SFC (Join to see) - Yes and no. The BAH is to ensure that the SM can cover the rent for their family. However, the OP stated that she was living with her parents. Since the intent of BAH is to pay for housing, then the SM is no obligated to directly give her the money. When I was stationed in Japan I paid all of my wife's bills through autopay, and if that is what the SM is doing then there is no need for the BAH to be handed over to her.

Got it but the bottom line, the service member is receiving BAH to support his family. Even if she is staying with family, she still has to contribute to the household and at any time she can be asked to leave. The service member has billeting provided for him. SGT Matt Haase

BAH is for the spouse/family. It will go to his account but its "technically" for you. I went through this exact same thing when I went to Korea. If you can prove that you established residency prior to him leaving he'll be able to collect BAH. You said you live with your parents so if you can "find" a lease/document predating his departure then you're set.
