But you must realize there are some on the left that blame the U.S. for everything, they would rather tear this country apart.

Yes. And while the article recognizes that the US embargo harms the Cuban economy (that's the point), it also points out that Cuba is free to trade internationally and does so...yet the down spiral of the economy continue under communism.
