Wounded Warrior Project's overhead mostly goes into two things: Massive amounts of money to hire big name celebrities for their commercials, and massive amounts of money in the salaries of the company executives. There's also the part where WWP has come under fire and scrutiny over the last few years for suing smaller, less-established veterans' support groups.
Know who you're supporting.

One would be surprised how many other Non profit organizations fit the same criteria. That their Top executives are living off the donations. Yes ,it is legal as well ! Sad to say but the organization only has to put out a certain percentage towards this. The rest is for salaries and operating expenses...
Think about whom would be better at helping, local charities are big organizations... That's why I give to charities at the local level. I don't like giving my hard earned money away to a charity that has commercial's and CEO's.
Not all charities are bad...Just like the article said...Do the research before giving..... Knowing where the money goes and how it effects life's of those whom need it !

If anyone is looking for *worthwhile* NPF groups to support, I would recommend you look into Team Rubicon, Got your Six, and Active Heroes.

When I consider a charity, my rule of thumb is to look at expenses. If 15% or less of donations go towards expenses (including salaries), then I will delve deeper in my decision making process. Greater than 15% expenses, I cross it off the list. Wounded Warrior Project sees a throughput of 59.9%.
I do have one exception to the 15% rule, ALSAC St Jude Childrens Hospital.
